Opened a case when they didnt need to!!!

I sold a small bracelet.I had listed it a few times before unsucessfully.
I mislaid it.I messaged the buyer saying sorry,do you want a refund,or do you want to wait a few weeks in case it turns up.No reply.
Three weeks later they open a case saying item not received, ticked box saying they had contacted me,and I would not work with them..
Said I was lying and had a higher offer elsewhere!!??
Said FIND IT OR REFUND ME
Why do people do this?

If you didn't have a reply from your message telling them you couldn't find it, perhaps they didn't get the message. You should have ensured you had made contact.
So for three weeks, you have had their money and they haven't had the goods?
It is not surprising they have opened a case.0 -
They did get the message, they reference it in the case.If you don't leap, you'll never know what it is to fly :heartpuls0

Well either way. You can't sit on someones money for 3 weeks.
The old 'I lost it/the dog ate it (or worse) are usually code for 'it went for too little money'. You cannot blame the buyer but the buyer will definitely blame you.0 -
I am not blaming the buyer and I know people say that, but the only reason I had his money-2.99 for 3 weeks was because he did not resond to the message.I am not a mindreader and was hopeful it might turn up.
Why not just reply saying refund me or find it straight away,he could have called me a liar then!
Why bother to open a case ,It is pointless. If you don't leap, you'll never know what it is to fly :heartpuls0 -
All you can do now is refund and hope the buyer doesn't leave you a neg feedback.0
-
I expect the buyer was peeved at the message, they would I'm sure have been expecting further contact from you within 3 weeks.0
-
The dispute case is a means of formalising things and making sure that the seller doesn't "forget".0
-
OP - if that happened to me, I'd refund immediately and apologise, and offer to send the item out free if it turned up (maybe hoping they'd be decent and pay for it again but not, obviously, expecting that). It's what I did in the past before the free 99p listings came in and buyers became more suspicious about this sort of thing; on one occasion I actually did find the item (a small packet of stamps, worth all of about 50p; this was when eBay didn't have a minimum BIN price) and I stuck it in the post at my own cost.
NO WAY should you keep someone's money for three weeks without them getting something in return. NO WAY.
If sellers want buyers to treat them honourably, they should do the same to them."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I don't know why sellers do this.
It really does annoy me when I win items on ebay only to later be advised the item is not available. Usually it's when I win an item for a really low price, but have also had it when the item is is a BIN. Oddly, never had it when I've got a bit carried away and over-bid on an item.
I wish eBay would take more stingent action against those who 'mislay' items after they have successfully sold an item, but not yet dispatched it.0
