Can I Claim PPI Back?

Hi,
I'm a newbie here and was looking for some advice.

I took out a three year loan in early 1995, maybe late 1994.
I am 99.9% sure I paid PPI and I definitely didn't ask for it. I don't have any paperwork or anything relating to the loan.
The loan was with Abbey National, now Santander and was for around £1000. I still have a current account with them.
My questions are ; Is the loan too old to claim from and if not, how do I go about starting a claim?

Also, I have a store card with Evans and a credit account with the catalogue Studio and I definitely remember paying PPI without asking for it. The thing is a few years ago I wrote to them asking to cancel the PPI. Again, I do not have any old statements or paperwork. Can I make a claim and how?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice given.
