in Credit cards
I've just called customer services to cancel one of my B'card accounts, and have been offered 1% cash back for 6 months (max £50 pcm) to keep it open.
I have 2 accounts at present, an 'Initial' account opened some 5/6 years ago, and a 'Standard' account which came into being when all Egg accounts transferred to Barclaycard a few months ago (it was an 18 month 0% balance transfer card), which has been open just shy of 2 years.
This may be something therefore to those in the same boat - there must be a few with 2 active Barclaycard accounts after the Egg transfer - can take advantage of. Sure it's not the best CB deal out there, but comes without the need for a new account application and credit check. It may also be the standard retention offer for medium term account holders at present so worth a go of you're thinking of closing any B'card accounts shortly?
I was a little surprised to be offered the deal, especially as I told them I was closing the 'Initial' account as I only wanted one Barclaycard account open. It also got me wondering which was better to leave open for my credit score - I had assumed that the fact that the 'Initial' account was primarily opened back in the day to help rebuild my credit history meant that it wasn't scored as highly; at least internally at Barclays.

I just got this exact deal on my Barclaycard Initial and I'm so chuffed!!
Only had the Initial a few months, got it for the 0% on purchases, and because my credit rating isn't top notch so don't stand a chance with the best cards. So this is amazing as I wouldn't expect to be able to get another card with such good cashback!
I have got the Aqua card on its way, with 3% cashback, but it's limited to £100 a year rather than Barclaycard's £50 a month, and the Aqua credit limit is way below the £800 I've got with Barclaycard.
So I wanted to help spread the word to Initial cardholders who might be in for a treat.
Now to get spending0
