Higher rate DLA care and ESA medical

Hi everyone,

I'm just posting this for a friend.

She is on higher rate DLA for care and mobility. She read somewhere that if you are on higher rate care you do not have to have the ATOS medical when you are transferred over from IB to ESA.

Just wondering if this is the case.

Its not true, everyone is assessed on a case by case basis.

My advice is for her to see the doctor she is registed with and not the one she normally sees if they are diffrent to update them on her current state of health and also to collect reports from everyone involved in her care and send them with the ESA50. Send 2 ESA50s back (its easier to fill it in on line and just print 2 off) and send one registed delivery for £2.60 ish (not next day delivery which costs £5.60 ish) and get a certificate of posting for the second form which is free of charge.

This worked for me to be changed into the support group from IVB without a face to face assessment, I get HRC/HRM too.

Sunnyone is right.

It used to be that for IS/IB, if you were on HRC DLA that you were exempt from the medical, but that's not the case for ESA.

Some of the reasons you can be granted HRC are automatic entries into the support group for ESA.
If these apply to you, and you bring it to their attention, they may not need to see you at the medical.

I made sure that my form contained the information/proof that I fulfilled the criteria of the support group in the relevant sections of the form and again in the more info section on the back andI also told them I would appeal unless I was placed in the support group.

Its important to get supporting evidence for the support group criteria to send with your ESA50 for example, my wheelchair therapist wrote a report to back me up that I couldnt self propel a manual wheelchair, she also supported me in that I cant transfer from one seated position to the next which are both support group criteria.

My husband is on MRC and HRM and he was moved from IB/IS to ESA a few months ago and was placed straight into the support group with no medical. And we didnt have to submit much info at all, just filled in the short questionnaire they send out. We didnt provide any other medical reports at all. I was quite surprised to be honest as we were told virtually everyone has to have an assesment!
