Putting my daughter on my insurance
Comments

I just got a quote off lv. £300 to add my daughter (19, had a full licence for 2 years) to my wifes insurance on her car for the coming year. So £500 in all for the year. I think that's well worth it for her to ferry me to the pub and back, without having to squeeze into her car (which she paid for, along with the insurance, tax, and mot) Just got to convince her she can drive in france this summer, and I can enjoy the wine.0

Green Insurance, 18 year old on wife's policy, £1200.
That's for a Peugeot 306.
Curiously, it was only £500 for a 20 year old Volvo estate with an engine twice the size, but unfortunately my daughter doesn't like driving it!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

How times have changed. Think insurance for youngsters has really shot up over the past 20 years or so. Remember cursing when I insured my first car TPFT and it was £300 (about 20 years ago) now the prices they talk about is more than most first cars are worth.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

My husband is insured with Liverpool Victoria and adds our daughter to the policy for fixed periods of time (as she is away at University, so he just adds her for the Uni holidays). She is 19 now and the additional premium for her to be added is about £100 per month, which we think is very reasonable. Don't know what it would be if she were added permanently.
She passed her test a year ago, and the addtional premiums for her seem to have gone down, presumably because she is more experienced now. Can't remember what it was originally, but not that much more, I think. She has not had any claims. The excess is a bit higher for when she is the driver.
Could you start off doing something like that?
Annabee, that sounds a good deal. Is there a limit to how many days/months per year your daughter can be added?0 -

That's a realistic quote at last for an 18 year old.0
