RBS/NatWest - OS preps?

The fiasco with Natwest/RBS could have happened with any of the banks, and the glitch didn't happen because the call centre is in India, but because they rolled out an IT update without testing it properly!
In Natwest's defence, it seems that they have been trying their best to sort it out as fast as they can and offering cash to people who have been expecting wages etc in the meantime, no consolation though to people who've missed out on holidays/house sales falling through and those who don't bank with them, but their employers do.
I don't bank with Natwest any more, though really only because I had an overdraft with them and I couldn't get any progress with paying it off while my wages went in!
I am grateful though that I have different accounts with 2 separate providers with access to money in both, so if one of them had problems, I can use the other one. It wasn't deliberate - I signed up to the Barclays paid account for £6.50 which provided me with mobile phone insurance as opposed to the £12.50 quoted by O2, then I have my wages go into Halifax so I qualify for their £5.00 reward, so I'm only paying £1.50 per month for phone insurance, card/passport protection, camera insurance etc. Seemed like a good MSE:money:idea, even better that I have accidentally ended up banking with 2 institutions after this last week!!0
