RBS/NatWest - OS preps?

Options
Just wondered if anybody here has suffered from the RBS/NatWest probs this last week or if anyone has managed to avoid suffering/problems because they are OS and had prepared for any eventuality?

I was at my local Co0p this evening and they said that most twatwest cards had been refused today :(

I would like to think that if that happened with my bank, I would be able to carry on pretty much as normal because I have a store.... Much thanks to this OS board :T

(i'd be screwed for ciggies tho as I don't store them!)

Well yes and no. I am with NatWest, didn't bother checking my account as I assumed monies hadn't gone in like everyone else. It wasn't a problem as I am stocked up and have cash at home. However, had a big shop delivered from Tesco today so my account is fine.

Don't understand how some people have been affected and others not, some NatWest customers were saying their accounts were fine a few days ago and yet others are still having problems today. I think NatWest should pay some compensation, people have suffered.

A few months ago, my bank was having some sort of 'technical problems' and lots of people's cards were being declined at tills, but had been going through eventually. We did our shopping without too much trouble, then went to Nand*'s to get a takeaway and my card would not go through at all.
Unlike in the UK, I only had one card/account to use, so was getting a bit worried. But then the manager said not to worry, I could have the 2 lots of chicken and chips for free! I thought that was really nice of him, as it wasn't his/Nand*'s fault that they couldn't process my card.
I suppose it would have gone to waste (or to staff) if I hadn't been able to pay, so he didn't really lose anything, but still.

So no, not been 'compromised' by bank mishap, but I have benefited in a small way!

Being cyber attacked is becoming reality these days, many of our facilities and even transport systems are being controlled from servers abroad, quite often in India. That nat west fiasco was a minor incident compared to what could happen

Personally, I have a large stockcupboard, I did think I might run it down but have changed my mind. I have serious water filter/purifiers that will turn dirty water to drinking water and I have 8 full water butts. I am accumulating cash, I already use cash when I can.

It is horses for courses, depends where you live and how safe your house is for storing cash. I live too far from any shop, my house is 100% safe and no-one knows about my storecupboard except my immediate family. It is well tucked away and out of sight

We are with RBS and OH's pension didn't go in on Friday, but it has arrived by this morning, thank goodness. I was able to shop on Friday and have had no trouble with cards, but was relieved to know that I have money in another bank so that if I had had no access to our funds in the RBS, we could still have managed to carry on. We also have an extensive store, both "dry goods" and in the freezers, so we could have managed on that for quite some time. Wouldn't have been much help paying other bills, but we wouldn't have starved!

I'm with Natwest but didn't experience any problems. I do have a pre-pay visa card for emergencies home and abroad and I took out some cash at the weekend just in case anything did go wrong with my account.
I've been thinking about moving banks for a while and this is the kick up the !!!! I needed! I only joined Natwest for the student account promising a rail card that I never "qualified" for.

I'm with Ulster Bank & was due to get my ESA on Sat/Monday just gone.As of yet I have had no money as it turns out the payment was not sent to my account.
So I had been taking money out on the promise of my ESA going in,which so far hasn't happened. If I hadn't called ESA yesterday to find out how much I should have gotten on Monday,I'd have been none the wiser & dropped in a complete financial mess.
My phone & internet was cut off on Monday & I had to fight to get it re started as it wasn't my fault I haven't paid it.
Thankfully I am quite well stocked for myself but was running out on cat food for Daisy.
This is the second payment in a row that ESA have failed to make,so I have contacted my local MLA who is going to get it sorted for me,as I'm getting nowhere fast with these a*****es!
(sorry about the language, but between them & the Ulster Bank,I am furious!)

My OH is with NW but his wages were paid in, and I transferred his share of the housekeeping to my account (with another bank), before the problems started so we've not been affected by the problems, but I think we would have been ok anyway, at least food-wise, as we usually have enough in store to tide us over, plus have a bit of cash but I feel sorry for those who have been affected, and I hope they get some deserved compensation for any losses caused by this.

I've sniggered at OH's plan to keep gold in the house as it can always be used as a currency! He reckons that banks can just close their doors and we'd all be kn***ered. I must admit that his words did echo a bit over the weekend...
Not that we are anywhere near the gold bar stage but decided against selling my broken jewellery.
(I noticed that his pay went into NW on time but funds weren't released until yesterday. How much interest has that earned them overall?;):()

I am with Natwest and am just praying my salary will go in as normal. I didn't have too many problems in that I have food in my cupboards and cash at home. Watching the news and reading forums was interesting. I was surprised at how many people don't keep any cash so were instantly having problems. I always keep cash at home just in case I'm ill and need to get a taxi or give someone money for shopping etc. When I was burgled I needed cash to pay the locksmith. I also have a credit card. I do think it's worth having one for emergencies even if you don't like using it regularly.
