Have hbos credit card and barclay card - both with good transfer offers at mo for existing customers - how would they deal with me moving £1500 one way and £2500 the other way ie is a transfer paid off first? Or last - which would clearly be better for me

You need to do one transaction to one card - wait for it to show on both cards, and then do the transaction back the other way. Two lots of fees incurred.0

If you have a balance being charged interest and already on a statement, that will always be paid off before any balance at 0%, so the balance transfer will pay off the "right" balance. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
