Ibiza

I have been looking to book a holiday to Ibiza all inclusive at San miguel hotel, recommended by another mse member. unfortunateley it is coming out over our budget, so are now thinking of self catering. Dont know much about Ibiza with regards to which resorts to go to, would like some recommendations. I have 2 teenage boys 18 and 14 so dont want to quite but dont want to be in the middle of all the clubbing. Also which company would you advise booking with.
Thankyou.

Have you checked out jet2.com holidays...? Presumably your two lads wont be ready for the full Manumission treatment? What do YOU want out of the holiday?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Would just like to chill out sunbathing, visit different beaches and eat out most evenings in nice restaurants. Boys also like to do a bit of fishing if possible.

We got back from Ibiza on Sunday and had a fabulous time. My boys are somewhat younger though (3yrs & 10mths).

We stayed in a small place called S'Argamassa, which is on the east coast between Santa Eularia & Es Canar.

S'Argamassa was Fine for us (as we had our own villa & pool), but I would imagine a little too quiet for your family. Just a couple of bars & restaurant, but no nightlife or entertainment really to speak of. But we were just 5 minutes either way in a car from the other towns.

Santa Eularia was lovely. From what I know of the island now, I would guess this to suit you best. It's got a gorgeous marina with expensive yachts & boats. Lots of really nice restaurants around here and apparently some lovely ones further into town too. Nice shops & bars. The main beach in the town looked lovely too.

Es Canar was ok. It's much more a "cheaper" resort. we went out there a couple of times as the restaurants are very much aimed at the British market, and for a couple of cheap meals out it suited us and the kids well. Saying that, both the meals we had there were very nice and very reasonably priced. The beach looked nice too.

We also visited Ibiza Town during the day. Lovely area, really nice for a wander around the old town & castle. Not sure about the beaches, although I heard Talamanca was really nice. Lots of shops/bars/cafes/restaurants around the town though so I imagine it would be lovely in the evening.

My big recommendation would be to drive one evening (with your boys) into San Antonio and go to Cafe Del Mar. I'd never realised exactly what this was (thought it was a club) but it's a really nice open seafront bar, where every night it fills up with people and they play music to accompany the sunset, for which it has a perfect view. It's a definite must and people of all ages were enjoying it.

I'd also recommend hiring a car as it's really easy to drive around the island. I'd heard cabs were good & cheap, but I think I'd have found them quite restrictive.

We were in a self catering villa, so some nights we cooked/BBQ'd, and other nights we headed out to restaurants. We honestly didn't spend as much as we expected to. Supermarkets are good & fairly cheap. Our local Eroski supermarket had a good variety of food & drink that kept us all happy.

Ours was booked through James Villas, but a few people on the same "villa resort" as us had booked through Thomas Cook.

Hope that can help a little. We had a fantastic time :)

Just as an after thought... Drinks at Cafe del Mar were not cheap. I think a coke was about 5 Euros, a cocktail was about 10 Euros (but delicious!!)
As a one off (and if you can make the drink last through the sunset!)I think it's well worth it for the atmosphere & experience. :D

I would think you would find Santa Eulalia a very good choice.
We stopped some years back at the Orquidea Hotel, which is in a fantastic position on the lovely promenade. We had an apartment there, but I understand they also do all inclusive.

Do that now and security move you on:mad:

If going to San Antonio for a sunset view, The Golden Buddha which is up the seafront a bit from Cafe Del Mar is less busy and the drinks are cheaper and also has the same great sunset view:)
