Argh! Help!

I know that there are loads of threads about multiple student accounts, but this is slightly different.
I have a student account with Halifax and I wanted another one. Natwest were pretty crap about getting anything sorted so I went to Lloyds to open one. However, they declined my application and wouldn't tell me why. I wondered if me going over my overdraft limit with the Halifax sometimes might have affected my credit rating, do u think that was the problem? Or is it more likely that they checked to see if I already had a student account with someone else?
I'm just wondering if it is worth going back to Natwest or anywhere else as surely the same thing will happen as at Lloyds?

I had one with Natwest and opened one with HSBC no probs - did you admit to having another student account?

It will be well worth checking with equifax and experian to see whats on your credit record - it either costs £2 or you can sign up to their online system which you can normally get a free 28 day trial period for. You may have mistakes or details on there that have caused the problem.
  • Be careful - if you have two student accounts and either find out they will close the account and ask you to pay back your overdraft immediately.

I tried opening a second with Halifax but was refused because they knew i already had one with natwest :(

More and more banks are now sharing information about current account overdrafts through the credit reference agencies. Although the credit report information won't show if the facility is a student account, it will show how you have handled your account and any unauthorised overdrawing is likely to show as arrears.
