We had this same problem today, although not divorced, we received 7 cheques from Lloyds TSB in joint names, we both have accounts with Nationwide, who would not entertain letting us pay into one account with the other persons permission, we had to open a joint savings account to cash cheques, Nationwide advised us to close account if not required after money is removed......although the joint account will show on both our online banking, and either one of us can clear the joint account into our current account just by logging in............Madness!!!!!!!!!

Depending on how the cheques were written and what name(s) are on his bank account(s), it is possible they might have been cashed. If he has remarried, for example, then he may well be able to cash cheques which are payable to "Mr & Mrs Xxxxxxxx".

So step one is to speak to the bank and ask them for an update. Then you will know what you're dealing with.

i was told in a previous post that he cant cash the cheques if they in joint names , he wont talk to me to discuss so difficult only saying for me to write to let him have all the cash and i'll get some amount.

My suggestion is to phone the ppi complaints line for the bank and ask for advice on this matter and see if you can find out what hes actually done, even if he put in the complaint its a loan you both had equal input into so in joint names they should talk to both of you.

myself and hubby put in a claim and we wanted to put it in another one of my accounts but not one of the banks would allow it, we had to put it in the joint account. Our cheque read Mr (My husbands name)(surname) and Mrs (My Name)(Surname). So unless your ex husband still has a joint account that you both held or his current wife (If he has one) has a similar name i am not sure how he would beable to cash in joint names.
