I work for Abbey - every employee with an Abbey bank account gets paid 2-3 days early, depending on whether the pay date falls after a weekend or not.

I mean, it doesn't make much difference - the sooner you get it, the sooner you spend it!

I work for a small family company who do all the wages by internet transfer. Those who bank with the same bank as the company (Barclays) receive their funds two days before the rest of us. They send them 4 working days before so that money is always in the account on the specified pay day.

When I worked for a bank, you had to have your salary paid into an account held with the same bank so we all got our money the same day.

I was thinking, if you bank at the same place as your employer, perhaps you could get hold of your wages a little earlier than the official payday? As the BACS transfer should be immediate,

No ... it doesn't work like that. The BACS payment is, not surprisingly, from BACS .. so it's irrelevant which Bank your employer uses. They fund BACS a composite sum - and BACS spray it out according to instructions from your employer .. and on the date designated. And it arrives as cleared funds.

Suspect you're confusing it with the potential benefit of being with the same Bank / branch - if paid by cheque? But there's no benefit via BACS.
