Been over to IOM a few times on business.
Twice by car ferry from Liverpool ( car and 2 passengers) Twice by air, one time hiring a car for the day.
IMO I would suggest getting the Mannan seacat from Liverpool with the car. It only takes 2 1/2 hours and you can drive round the beautiful island as carefree as you like.
I flew over 2 years ago and then hired a car for a day. Cheapest car I could get was from milchreest car hire and it was £99 for the day and that was a little nissan micra ! add on the return air fare and it cost more than taking the car. Last Time went over 12 months ago a taxi from Airport to the Normn wisdom statue in Douglas cost me £22 each way !
I would defo say take the high speed ferry and the car, you wont regret it.
Blackpool airport is great but manx2.com costs a fortune ! could fly to canaries cheaper and on a 8 seater plane.
Nice hotel in Douglas I have stayed in is the Empress on the Promenade, lovely staff and rooms.
Give you an idea pricewise.
Blackpool-IOM Manx2 12 Oct -14/10 cheapest flights and case each = £240.00
Liverpool-IOM Ferry, 2 Pax and car 12/10 - 14/10 £295.50 and you have your car with you so save on taxis.
No Brainer to me0
