I live therePompeyPete wrote: »Just for info, Disneyland is at the eastern end of RER Line A.
At the other end of the line is a town called St Germain en Laye. It's a lovely Paris suburb, yet far from the madding crowd.
It's got lovely cafes and restaurants, and lots of interesting buildings, not least the Chateau (one of Louis XIV's), which is sat on top of a panoramic terrace with great views east to La Defence and Paris...

I used to live near there in a small town called Le Vesinet. And every day I'd get the RER (Line A) to work in Paris, I never once went to the other end to visit Disneyland. Far too much to do in Paris and it's Banlieu!
and can confirm it is lovely
I also commute into Paris every day on the RER A, le sigh. I do enjoy visiting Disney though and go at least once a year (usually when my sister visits
). What were you doing in Le V!sinet and why did you move back to the UK (if you don't mind me asking)? 0 -

Hi. I was on a 4 year posting at the British Embassy (1996-1999)
We lived near the lake to start with, and then moved to between Le Vesinet and Chatou.
Had a great time.
Then got rewarded with 4 years in Saudi Arabia! Another great place, but that's a different story.0 -
Very nice
I'm a teacher so not nearly as glamorous

From what angelil says above, it looks like you need a Mobilis covering zones 1-4.0 -
You would indeed. But unless you are a seasoned visitor to Paris I wouldn't recommend a trip to Versailles if you are only going to be in/around the city for a day anyway. Versailles is a long trip if you want to see the buildings and gardens, and to top it all off, it's a good hour's journey from the Gare du Nord, so you would lose two hours of your time in the area to begin with. I'd stick with central Paris if I were you mrs lds.0
