Could you tell us a little more please. We need your make model of what I suspect is a laptop? Also which version of Windows are you using? Also confirm whether you are connecting via an ethernet cable or wirelessly?

    Thanks

Some laptops have a toggle switch on the side or front to turn the wireless on/off. Others use a combination of keys, such as the Fn + F5 key pressed simultaneously that does the same thing (on my wife's laptop it is Fn + F9) The F key can look like this

If however the problem is that you know how to turn it on/off but it is not working, then please confirm.

Not sure about any toggles or F's I just have a pop up that shows ON and Off options. When I click on ON another pop up tell me to put Lan to ON ...confused!

The concept of wireless is to be able to switch it on off to save juice, ie battery lasts longer in the off position. All modern laptops have either a physical switch or software keys to do this.

If you tell us which model Vaio yoi have we can look it up for you, Turn it over and on the back is should tell you the model eg VPC...... Alternatively if you have either a manual in either paper or on disk, you may be able to suss this yourself?

    It is Sony Vaio VPCEE3E0E

I think I have tried all that I know (not a lot!)via the assist button.
The last pop up is telling me to
    Ask a trusted friend....MSE techies
Take computer to Sony centre...not possible
Contact Sony...may take too long for replies?

Here is the manual for yr Vaio: ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/manuals/Notebooks/VPCEF3/EE3_EF3_EN.pdf - page 55 tells you about the wireless.

You definitively have a physical switch for your wireless function. Unfortunately there is no diagram in the manual to show exactly where it is.

I believe it is on the front, or on the front leading edge, it may be marked with the symbol å

PS If you're still stuck, try the Vaio chat line and talk to the Vaio people: https://www.docs.sony.com/startchat.asp

It's so much easier to turn some[STRIKE]one[/STRIKE]thing off than to turn them on... ;)
