First Direct joint account

Hi I want to open a joint account with my girlfriend with FD and get the £100 bonus.

1) I have just graduated and will be starting a job at 30K, which should be enough for their income requirements, but she is still a student. Will this make rejection more likely?

2) We both have sole accounts and credit cards with HSBC, paid in full each month. Will FD use info directly from HSBC or can they only see what's on Experian / Equifax?

3) At the moment we are using a joint account from Lloyds, but we don't want to switch those DDs. I have another sole account with Halifax which has 2 DDs that I am happy to switch. Do we have to switch a joint account?

4) I want to apply for several credit cards as well. Would it be better to apply for the CCs first or FD account first, since all of them will search my file? (Will FD search my file if we don't get an overdraft from them?)

  • Its combined so you will be fine for requirements

HSBC are joined with first direct so they will probably know about them, but will probably also use experien

I think it is at least 2 DD's and £1500 going through each month which you can standing order

Definatly apply for current account first. Especially with you already having a few anyway, you would be better off becoming a customer then applying for a credit card

    Hope this helps

Yeah, but does the account i'm switching from have to be a joint one as well?

Oops, I didn't mean an FD credit card. Probably going for the capital one 5% cashback.

OK, I guess FD won't reject just because they see a single search on my file right? But capital one may reject if they see a search from FD?

No, you can open up an account in your name and add your partner after :)

Sorry for confusion, I'd be surprised if either company rejected you simply because of other companies performing searches. I think you are quite safe compared to alot of other people applying for current accounts and credit cards

    Good luck :)
