Simple thing here, can HSBC allow an international address and for how long?
I'll be out of rhe UK for maybe a year (working abroad) china, so will they allow a china address?
Also what about the other banks rbs/barclays/tsb ? not really bothered about them but the hsbc one i use the most.
(I see in the online banking i change it my self) is it that simple? i thought you need to send of a form or some boll0cks?

What will happen to your UK address? You can keep a UK address as your HOME address and change your CORRESPONDENCE address to China. I think that helps keep your credit history to one address but lets you get your statements. The HOME address can only be changed in branch. The online address is the correspondence one.0 -
Uk address will be gone fella, 'its just a flat'
i can change it online to a full Chinese address (just checked)
i never get any statements at all from the bank
(its all online on all my accounts)
but this won't effect any credit or debt on me will it?
(not like i own anything)
but who knows...• HSBC (Main A/C)

Yeah then it's fine, you can keep the Chinese address for as long as you want but just make sure some money moves in and out every 2-3 months.0

cheers fella,

why would you be paying those when you're in China?
Those payments are owed to the water / electric / phone company, not the bank, so the company would chase you up at the address they have for you.
If you owed HSBC money, then that's different, I don't know what they would do. All this is based on my experience. I have a student account and I took a year out from my course. I changed my address to overseas for 8 months, and was in overdraft all the time, but my dad put some money in after 4 months. HSBC sent all my statements overseas and they never said anything about the overdraft.0 -

They would but if the OP ignored or didn't receive the correspondence, they could find his new address through the CRAs. Whether they would find it worth the expense of employing a Chinese debt collector is another matter, of course. Best option is to make sure all bills are paid, and get your post re-directed to a trusted friend or relative before you leave your flat.0 -

Really? So why the ** am I still getting threatening debt collection letters for the old tenants at my place who left a year ago? Maybe they moved to China as well and closed all their bank accounts...
I don't know how much that person owes, but that company thinks it's worth it to send a letter every 2 weeks even though I've been sending them back for the past 4 months (this place was empty for 6 months before I moved in)0 -
@ TheBanker
Christ... I hope that doesn't happen (it's all i need) and it's very hard to make sure all bills are paid this is directs debit after all.
@zerog
nah i wont be paying fella, (i just don't want them to chase me) if i have missed something (because when the time comes they wanna take out a 'DD' it will just refuse because I've cancelled it.
and all they will have is the flats address HSBC account is all in the green nothing has ever bounced plus that's the only bank i will change my address in
(the other bank's are gonna be changed to a friends address)
but i hope that doesn't 'flag' up on the system.• HSBC (Main A/C)

I'm not an expert on CRAs - one area I've never worked in (thank god) is collections. But I'm pretty sure that when you change your address with a bank or credit provider, this is visible when searching your credit file and other creditors can track you down. Bear this in mind if you're having some correspondence sent to a friend's address!
@Lith, are you planning to come back to the UK? If so will you need a bank account, credit, to rent a house or even take a mortgage? They will find your previous debts when you apply, so those unpaid debts could come back to haunt you.0 -
