Should we sell the car?
Hi all just looking for some advice. My husbands parents bought us a car about 18 months ago, its a 2004 renault scenic, basically they bought it for more than is was worth from a garage and it hasn't started properly since we got it but obviously we don't say anything bout it cause it was free. Anyway over the last 6 months we have spent £1000 on repairs on it and now it needs more repairs which are gonna cost £500 (We always get it done cheap as poss).
I said to my husband I think we should think bout selling the car and try get a smaller cheaper one rather than blow another £500 on this car. We can't have anything too small as we have 3 kids but the tax is really high on our current car soon so hopefully we would be able to save a bit on that. What does everyone think?
Before anyone says, I know it seems a bit harsh to sell a car that was bought for us so soon but we just can't afford to keep up to repairs, as we've also had to pay for a wedding recently.
Thanks

You will be selling a medium sized car that you know for an unknown box of expensive bills for the sake of £200 a year?
Sisters kids have all grown up and she is looking for a small car to run around in. The insurance is on average £20 cheaper than her large family car. Some cars are actually dearer to insure.
She looked at a fiesta but it had been bodged and needed a fair bit of work.
So any savings would be spent very quickly. Sometimes larger cars can be as cheap to run as a small car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Whatever you buy for that money will have faults or not be long from having them.
Once you get below the £2000 mark, you are in gamble territory.0
