Help fitting an Ikea kitchen please!

Hi, We are planning to fit our Ikea kitchen ourselves and have read alot about the fact that Ikea units don't have a service void for pipes etc to go at the back. Lots of people suggest fixing the kitchen to batton, thereby leaving space behind the units for the pripes to run.
My question is...... how do I then cover this gap between the cabinet and the wall at the end of a run of cabinets? I have seen that Ikea do cover/end pannels, but these seem to be the same dimensions as the cabinets and therefore wouldn't cover the gap. Does this make sence? Let me know if not and I will try to explain more clearly!
So how have other people dealt with this? Or do I just have to put up with a nasty gap or find another way to accomodate the pipes?
Any help gratefuly appreciated!

Im fitting an Ikea this week and they can be a real pain to fit.
You dont want to be leaving an unsightly gap. If you decide to pull the units off the wall you will need oversized worktops and you will have to add a filler at the back of the panels, Could be a good idea to buy an extra plinth and use this to fill the gap. If you have the right tools you can router the 2 panels to make the join as inconspicuous as possible. If not just join the the uncut back of the panel to the uncut side of the filler. Hope this makes sense0
