This sounds like it could be a housing association flat being illegally sublet. Phone the HA & ask.
Well dodgy, one way or the other.0 -

Well dodgy, one way or the other.
The place is on a 125 year leasehold from the LHA.
I put in for housing benefit so if it's illegal to rent out I am sure to find out soon. The decision for my housing allowance is due within a week so I am looking forward to feedback from the council.0 -
Contact with the agent is by text message or email.
I know she lives really close to our building. Rent is paid by bank transfer into her account.
I think you need to educate your fellow tenants a bit.
Until such time as the agent provides the name and postal address of a contact in england and Wales to whom you can send notices, none of you are required to pay rent.
Once they do this, you will have to pay the rent arrears.
Unless the agent provides this name and address, the agent cannot serve any of you with notice to quit -section 8 or section 21.
One of the problems of your splittng your issues over different posts is that it is impossible to keep track of stuff.
Did you pay a deposit? One of the girls in the flat used to have a place with the same agent. before Christamas she was given 5 days to move out into another place found by the agent.
What is the fixed term on your contract? What was the fixed term on her contract?
The LL (or agent) cannot ask you to leave until the fixed term ends.
The LL (or agent) has to give 2 months written notice timed to co-incide with rental periods to end the tenancy. Either times to co-incide with the end of the fixed term or when the tenancy becomes periodic
If you do not leave at the end of the notice period, they have to go to court to get a possession order. Once they have the possession order, they have to book bailiff to remove you.
And illegal eviction is a criminal offence. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
