Sports Direct - Grrrr...

Options
Went in to purchase a new gym t-shirt on Saturday in my local store. They had a black adidas tshirt for £10 which I really liked but didn't have in my size (S), only M upwards. So I decided to go to another store which was 5 minutes walk away but again, same situation.

I ended up going back through town to purchase some more items and ended up back at the original sports direct store. Asked one of the 'kind' floor staff if they had this adidas tshirt in a small, no was the answer and when I asked if they could order anymore in etc etc was told that this would be the last of the item and wouldn't be able to purchase anywhere else.

I eventually went for a different tshirt of a different manufacturer in the correct size then got home. I decided to browse the website this morning, lo and behold....I could order the original item I wanted in the correct size.

Therefore, I decided to go back to SD this morning to ask for a refund.....no refunds. Brilliant, so I can't now get the cash back to buy the item I want from THEM! Gift-cards and exchanges only....okay, can I use the gift card online? No. Can they order the item I want for me? No. Ended up storming out of the shop very unhappy.

I'm simply trying to 'exchange' the item I bought for the one I wanted originally that I was told wouldn't be possible.

What an absolute mess.

Unfortunately for you, that's the legal situation. SD do not have to give exchanges or refunds on items that are not faulty, they even say so by the tills so you can find out before purchase.
Other companies do give refunds, maybe use them instead if you want to pay more but have better 'customer service' ?

True, but I think it's unfair to be told an item won't be possible to get anywhere to then find I could have just bought if off the website instead!

SD are ran completely different from just about any other shop. A store gets what it gets and when its gone from that store - its gone. Unless its a very popular item that they know wlil sell they wont restock nor order for you.

Same as online - different stuff to instore a lot of the time. This kind of reduces his over heads a bit as the lorries are only full of stuff the store needs and not specially ordered items.

There's also the fact that they have the returns policy on the back of the receipt as well as printed above every till point in the store - yep, annoying but ultimately they're within their rights.

If you want reasonable service go somewhere else, SD are notoriously duff and I'll be brutally honest with you, you were buying branded goods so the company itself probably doesn't care as it's not a maximum profit item.
