    Hi hun

Sorry to hear you've been through hell the past couple of months. I've been on anti depressants off and on for the past 3 yrs and I've still got life insurance. I have life insurance and critical illness cover with CIS for £5.21 per month, which pays out £33000 in the event of me being diagnosed with a critical illness.

They ask your GP for a copy of your medical records when you apply for life cover, however your GP sometimes "softens" the records he provides to try and help you out.

    Good luck

    *hugs*

If I remember correctly the financial advisor told me if the policy pays out for crit illness it will leave you without life cover due to it being a life with crit, so you might want to speak to your financial advisor in case you need seperate cover.

I am sorry to hear about the S.A.D but wanted to tell you there is loads you can do to prevent it and work with it coming into winter this year. I used to get this as I originally come from NZ and I am used to short winters and long sunny summers!

Start in about September and you will need to invest some money into this but it is worth it. I have a special light that pumps out glorious light from a box and I sit in front of it EVERY DAY- I have had to plan this into my day but I get up a little bit earlier and sit down at the table and eat breakfast in front of it and then I am lucky as I am at home a fair bit now (couldnt work all the time with my SAD) so sit and have my lunch the same way. If you do work in an office you can also buy lights that go on top of your computer screen and also ones beside it. The company I use is outside in and you can find them on the internet but there are other suppliers. I bought my main light made by Philips via Boots who ordered it in for me. You may need to ask Boots about it or look at the Philips website. I got a note from my doctor saying I had SAD and so I got it without VAT so saved 17.5% plus used my Boots loyalty card and got loads of points so it wasnt as dear as normal! It also looks good which I know isnt important but figured if it was going to be hanging around all winter I should like what it looks like! You need at least 10,000 LUX in the light.

Then I decided no drugs for me so I follow a course of natural remedies one of which is St Johns Wort but you need to be careful with this as it reacts with some other medications so you need ot really look into it. I went ot a very good health shop (not Holland and Barrett) and spoke ot someone who knew all about it. I take my as a tincture which is in liquid form as this works much better for me but it is personal taste - the other advantage is it means I drink more water which also helps with sluggish minds and bodies. I then chose to use some other tinctures made by Australian Bush Flower remedies called Cofid for Confidence and Dynamis for dynamisim! These work FOR ME but you will need to work out what will work for you.

I also respect that there are some days when I may feel a bit glum. I now allow for them and take it easy and stick on loads of great music and read uplifting books etc. I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist by trade so I have a lot of positive recordings around and so I listen to them as part of a reprogramming process for my brain.

Now all this is what works for me - it may not be right for you but the lights definately are great and well worth it. I just wanted you to know there is definately a way out of it and you really can massively improve your mood without drugs IF that is what you want to do - you may need to work on it to find out what is right for you. I am not anti antidepressants per se but there can be suitable alternatives that may also work for you without putting your life insurance shopping at risk!

Look on it as a great project ot see what works for you. Ask others what they try/use and see what is available. Also exercise is really important to release endorphins but you may not want to go as far as me - I adopted 2 dogs and now walk them every day so I have to get out and into the meagre daylight regardless - it also gives me something lovely to stroke and cuddle which helps as well!

Success in all you try and there is a way out of the glum tunnel!
