Fraudsters on MSE!

Just saw a thread in DFW forum, where a newbie was trying to sell CC and identity details. Thread is gone for good, of course (well done MSE moderators for quick action).

I was wondering, what is MSE's policy towards these fraudsters? Shouldn't they be kicked so hard on their asses that their generations born with a shoe mark on their back sides?

I believe it is the same as any other spam, illegal, offensive, racist or libellous posts. i.e. one of alert and ignore and allow the MSE ForumTeam to handle. :)

Another option with spam is to hit the spam button.

When enough users hit this (the exact quantity of hits required isn't published), I believe the post is removed. :)

Don't the moderators have a way of forwarding their details to the police?

What personal details (other than an email address) did you provide this site with when you signed up?

Do you really think spammers/fraudsters will use a genuine email address anyway?

They also have your IP address. So if the fraudsters are stupid enough, then they may be able to trace them that way.

Most likely the IP address of a completely innocent person whose computer was compromised and is running in a botnet - which is being used to spam forums and sites.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

That is for the site administration to know and put into practice if they deem it necessary. They don't need to tell us what precise action has been taken after removing/banning.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

I think it takes a court order for an ISP or website to hand member/user details over, even to the police, or does it? I can't remember for sure.

even so, most online fraudsters, spammers and blackhat artists use proxies that are 0-day and exploited from servers that have security vulnerabilities and had their logfiles removed or logging turned off completely so theres very little chance you can trace it back to the original user.
