Trust me i know for a fact what would happen, it only takes a small group of people to cause havoc. The school it self is fine and lot of the parents would be understanding. At the moment three parents know about my son and i'm very good friends with them all.
My son is in mainstream school at the moment, and i know a few other people who have moved they children to another school because of prejudice.0 -

In that case it's something that the school needs to tackle. Bullying by pupils is bad enough. But by adults it is probably illegal.0 -
Speaking as a parent whose child who 'looks' normal but has obvious needs once you start talking with him... Please don't teach him, by example, to be ashamed of what he is. Far better to teach him to be proud of the advantages of having a brain that works differently and the skills that can come with that and the obstacles he has overcome. If you get a statement you can choose a more appropriate school for him - if parents are allowed to cause trouble then this one is not it!!!Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I've spoken to the school about it and they have been sorting the issues out. Like i say the school are working together to educate people and at the moment you can see it starting to work.
The school are very anti-bullying and actually ban parents from coming into the school grounds so they are taking the matter seriously. I know one parent was reported to social services and the police got involved after she made racist comments. Lets just say she never caused any more problems after that.
It is illegal for adults to behave in the manner that they do but like i say i'd rather not rock the boat at the moment as my son has trouble making friends anyway and this would make it even harder for him. the children he's grown up with all know what he's like and that's fine they accept him for who he is. Its just the other children who don't really know him. But like i say its being sorted out.
For instance if my son went to my sisters daughters school he wouldn't have lasted a day in all seriousness so i'm counting my blessings right now.
I am not ashamed of my son in anyway shape or form. He is a very intelligent articulate young man who is very loving and caring. I would never change anything about him or older brother in anyway shape or form. If someone gave me a magic wand and said you change anything you want to your children. I wouldn't they are perfect in every way shape and form.
So it nots shame it being protective as i wish him to have friends and be able to function in the mainstream.
We have tried to explain to my son about his brain functions in a different way but at the moment he doesn't understand and asks how we can fix it. Its very hard explaining an eight year old hows he different to everyone else.0 -
Just an update.
I contacted Parent Partnership and met with the regional support worker on Monday and she helped me though the paperwork. She's lovely and really helpful, wish i'd gone to them sooner.
She said what i'd written was very good considering i had never filled out a statement form before. The SENco and i went through the official statement so now that's sent off along with quite a few medical forms.
I also got in touch with Contact charity for throughout the North East of England who give advice to children / adults with additional needs and disabilities. They were really helpful and fab. If anyone has the the pleasure to meet with Kathy Wiste and Sarah Lewis you'll feel an enormous sense of relief and support.
So been given lots of info about who i might be able to apply for funding for educational needs.
If anyone who's want the info i recieved and are in North East England please pm and i'll pass the details over to you.
so fingers crossed on the 16th August we should know whether my little fella has been granted a statement off the LEA.
Thanks again for everyone's help, we really appreciate it.:D0 -
Hello all, been a while since i last posted, its been hectic here.
In August we found out that the local authority (la) agreed to accept our proposal for a statement of educational needs. So first stage passed, on to the second stage of going for asessments at the community pediatrician and other agencies involved. This was all done and dusted by 17 September and was told we should be by 10th November of the next outcome.
Friday last week I decided to phone Learning Support, we hadn't heard from them since September, so thought i would phone to see what was happening. To my shock i was told that the LA had accepted the evidence an agreed to a proposed statement and that we would recieve the pack shortly.
Lo and behold it arrives and along with a lovely lady from the Parent Partnership Network sat and went through it with me. To my utter shock she tells me wit great joy that the my son has fully been granted a statement! :j:j I was so shocked i actually hugged her, the poor woman.
I thought a proposed statement was not guaranteed and was just another stage to the whole process.
So yes!!! We have a statement! Hopefully by February next year we will have a meeting with the school and my son will recieve the help he needs.
So have another meeting with the school SENco tomorrow afternoon and then hopefully tomorrow evening we will have all the paperwork sent off.
Its such a relief knowing that he'll the help he needs now.
On the other side of things my son is still going through the process of getting a diagnosis for autism.
As you can tell i'm very happy mummy right now!!:D:D
So a big thanks again for all your advice and support!0 -
i read this thread as we are about to start the statementing process with my son who is currently at a main stream nursery in preperation for when he will start full time.
in regards to DLA only tou and your husband will know you claim it,you dont even have to tell anyone so you arent going to get any negativity about it. If you get some finacial help from that maybe it will take a bit of pressure off of worrying about funding and can be used for things to help your son and your family as a whole.Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0
