Parking tickets should result in 1 penalty point each, no financial penalty. So who's going to vote for that one? I suggest I may be hunted down and shot by "men from the dark forces division".
Parking tickets are nothing but blank paper fed into a banknote printing machine owned only by councils. They are completely disproportionate and account for billions of pounds of local authority revenue. They would not be so enforced without the revenue stream. However I would imagine that progression from Parking Attendant to Debt Collector would be a reasonable career move.
dont think thats what we are after ! Fore xample if you want to park for 30 mins it is 40p but if you have a £1 coin then you are !!!!!!ed. Councils should make machines available that give back change !!!ONLY COPY WHAT I AM DOING IF YOU ARE 100% SURE AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE END RESULT MAY BE. This is completely off topic but I am fuming and as bank charges were mentioned... back in August I paid my barclaycard payment on my First Direct Maestro debit card. Now I find that they have also taken payment in September and October. I have never authorised this and First Direct say there is nothing they can do, I have to chase it up with Barclaycard! So they have taken money from my account without permission and there is nothing I can do. urghhh.

if it is a direct debit, and you haven't authorised it YOUR bank must reverse it. Don't let them get away with fobbing you off, refer them to the DD guarantee!0

Its not a direct debit though, thats the problem. Apparently I have to speak to Barclaycard (which I don't want to do).

My mother who has early dementia and is quite disabled displayed her blue parking ticket incorrectly, (wrong side showing) and got a ticket.
I argued with my parents that they should contest the ticket, explain, provide the number and they'd get the ticket revoked. But they absolutely wouldn't. They were afraid that if they spent time arguing it, not only could they lose their claim, but in the meantime the cost would go up and up. I just could not reassure them, and probably there are many like them who pay up because it is easier than contesting.
someone did this recently near us and it made front page news in the local paper! She got refunded and an apology tho.
and I dont think parking fines are as black and white as CFC is saying, for instance we have a huge wide road at uni that is wide enough to fit a line of cars parked wither side AND 2 cars driving each way perfectly fine. One side is ok to park, the other is double yellows. does this make sense at all? no. Its just another way for the council to make money out of us all. Last year i used to park on the double yellows occasionally and in one year i only got 1 ticket. This is not careless parking this is a complete P**s take seeing as there is no justifiable reason to have one side ok and one side double yellowed. apart from monitary of courseSTUDENT SAVING CLUB MEMBER 32(3rd yr Joint Contour Fashion @ DMU)Overdraft £75/£1500Junk sold on ebay so far + BANKED= £50Savings from odd jobs BANKED = £25Change from tin BANKED = £0:rotfl:0 -

Medway council are now taking the !!!! again by now installing meters on side roads. First they let the medway towns run down and then they start to slap ticket machines and parking restrictions every where.ONLY COPY WHAT I AM DOING IF YOU ARE 100% SURE AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE END RESULT MAY BE. Though Rog2's route seemed unnecessarily long and complicated.
The 'route' that we were FORCED to take was ONLY long and complicated because the Traffic Warden actually changed her story when we sent our first letter of appeal. She 'claimed' that my wife had become 'abusive and threatening' and had refused to give details of address, and that the 'fixed penalty' parking ticket had only been issued in order to avoid confrontation.
This was a blatant lie, confirmed by an independent witness, so we were prepared to go to court in order to expose the way in which this 'warden' was abusing her power.
Court Action was ONLY avoided when we received a letter of apology from the Chief Constable in which he accepted that my wife was unlikely to have used abusive or threatening behaviour and that the warden had 'misinterpreted' the situation.
It had absolutely NOTHING to do with the cost of the Parking Ticket - rather the 'attitude' of those who are 'trusted' with the enforcement of regulations.
Whilst that particular Traffic Warden is now retired, parking regulations, in our town, are NOW being enforced by a private company, who certainly seem to be more concerned with earning money than with trying to 'resolve' situations amicably.
I can, therefore, perfectly understand the 'loathing' that people have for the way in which parking regulations are enforced.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. Traffic wardens gave my mum a £30 fine for parking in a car park with a valid ticket that was clearly displayed because they couldnt see it! I was with her and it was very clearly displayed and it made me very angry!
Thankfully my mum is a bit feisty and did complain but at first they tried to fob her off saying it wasnt there but thankfully she kept the ticket and sent them a photocopy of it and a very nasty letter and they eventually relented but it ruined a very nice Summers day out for us both as she was worried about it.
Personally I think there is a HUGE difference between parking illegally (coming back to a space 5 mins late, or parking in a unmarked car park space that doesnt block any of the other spaces or any paths ) and parking dangerously. Some discression should be used!Debt Free - done

Absolutely, SH - unfortunately 'discretion' takes second place in what is now a financially driven collection of revenue.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser.
