Aviva: change of address will cost £130 extra?

Hi everyone

Just a quick question to see if anyone knows anything that can be done about this.

Basically I've moved house and have just rang Aviva to tell them my new address and they're going to increase my premium by £132!? The premium for the full year was only £398. I know it goes on postcode but I've hardly moved from Kensington to Moss Side :( This is the only change to the policy.

Is there anyway I can get out of paying this much? She said I can cancel but that would cost £40 plus all the extras like legal cover etc are non-refundable.

Any help much appreciated.

Helen

Not a lot you can do. If you are considering cancelling, ask them for the full cost before making the decision.

If you mean you are moving from Kensington in London to Moss Side on Manchester, then the rent and rates reduction should help!

Thanks. I'm moving from a York postcode to a Sheffield one. I expected an increase in the premium but £132!

Do a couple of dummy quotes online and just see what difference the post code makes - if it's not around the £100 mark have a go at them!

(There will be an admin charge of around £20 for making the change, which is presumably included in the £132??)

I just did a brand new quote with Aviva with the same details, excess, extras etc and it put £200 on what I paid for the policy in April so it looks like they're not trying it on with me being an existing customer. Grr and I thought moving back in with the parents was supposed to save money! :(

How much of the £132 is an admin fee and how much is an increase in premium?

Cancelling may add another charge onto the £130. So you may not get anything back.

£50 admin fee to swap address and £70 increase, Then you cancel so thats £50 admin fee before you start.

Always ask before you commit. Lots of people have gotten their fingers burnt by thinking they can get a better deal and forget about all the costs involved.

Dont forget if you cancel before the policy expires you lose the extra years no claims. Assuming you have not claimed of course.

Yeah it would mean losing no claims earned since April. Also I have protected NC on this policy which is something I couldn't get anywhere else due to my age. I'm just going to have to pay the extra. :(

If you were to cancel this policy and then take out a new one, the cost of the existing policy with the cancelation charge would make it a vey expensive two months insurance. Even with some refunded.

Personally I would pay the extra and have a good look round next year.

Aviva's admin fee is up to £18

    From their policy booklet

"We reserve the right to apply an administration charge of up to £18 (subject to Insurance Premium Tax
where applicable) for any adjustments you make to your policy. There is no administration charge if you
change your policy online at aviva.co.uk/mypolicy.*"

    hi..
I change my address with swinton with only 2 months left to pay on my car insurance expecting a charge of 20 to 30 pound, after a enraged discussion on the phone for around 15 minutes the end result of my move from 5 minutes walk of my previous address had changed my last 2 monthly costs from 106 a month to 290 pound a month... the excuse I got for this hefty charge is "sorry sir but that is aviva's policy" where did aviva suddenly pop into the equation.. hmm.

regardless of that I cant help thinking that this amount is very wrong.. I still pretty much have the same post code.....

can anyone point me in the right direction to sort this or explain to me why this charge is so much......

    thanks.. nick..
