Car needs more work than it is worth :(

any realistic garage should charge no more than £40 for even the longest brake pipe, a pair of rear shocks at a guess should top out at no more than £60 max and the bulbs are pennies, advisors are not failures so if you havent any dosh dont do em but a micra tyres should be under £20 at any local tyre place for a budget job
if it looks an ok car on the outside you could put it straight for £150 i bet and if you are good with scrappers make that £500 -
That seems silly for £450! The bulbs should be easy and I would attempt to do that yourself.
The numberplate thing isn't much you can buy them online, just stick it in google and have a search for the cheapest ones.
Try and get a second opinion.:rotfl:0 -
Nearside rear shock absorber has neglible damping effect
Offside stop lamp not working
Offside front position lamps not in good working order
Nearside rear brake pipe excessively corroded (this is the one that makes me want to stop driving!)Happy chappy0 -
Thanks all. Bear in mind this is London if the price seems high...I'm certainly not in the North West, unfortunately, though I wish I were for this purpose!
I have looked in the haynes manual and there is no way I am confident enough to go messing with the brakes or the shock absorbers. There is a parts place round the corner from me - is it worth me buying the shock absorber etc and asking the garage to fit it, will that save me any cash by providing my own part?
I don't know of any self employed mechanic, I am stabbing the the dark if I do pick one out of the yellow pages for example. I don't know what else I can do. Advisory stuff like the numberplate can wait for now I guess, but the main things are the shock absorber and brake pipe to get it through the MOT. Bulbs I know I can do.0 -
Badgergal - where in S London are you?

I am in Stockwell. Wandsworth is therefore doable - I'd appreciate their details...0

Many thanks Brazilian, I will try giving them a call.0

They reckoned £60 plus VAT for the shock absorber but couldn't say about the brake pipe without looking at it...0
