Shaker kitchen mix?

Hi all, I have a Shaker kitchen in my home in a creamy colour (think they call it Ivory), it's only a few months old as it's a new build house. Not really a big fan of the colour or general style, so I've been looking at getting a walnut shaker breakfast bar and kickboards like this to 'compliment' it:

(I know this is an island and not in fact, a breakfast bar
).
Then I thought about mixing them together, i.e. highlight drawers as they're called, or possibly mixing them fully like this http://www.dmkbb.co.uk/private-developers/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/15-650x400.jpg. I like that look, but haven't seen it applied to shaker/older style kitchens. It seems to be contemporary style kitchens. So on the 1st link, the 3 white drawers to the very far right would also be in walnut. Or should I just stick with it as it is, in the ivory and not risk it?? Can't really decide! Any thoughts?

I think thats a good way of stamping your own identity on the kitchen. New houses always need something 'extra' to make them feel less identical to everything else. Mixing up the colours with wood and white is quite a popular combo at the moment and I really like it. It would definitley work on a breakfast bar. If you look at IKEAs kitchens online they also mix colours.
I did try and get my husband to okay an oak and pale blue mix in out kitchen but he isnt very brave so we have plain oak and and a blue worktop.0 -
Thanks, this is the nearest thing I could come up with:
Though I'd probably do both in the same shaker style, and IKEA doesn't do a walnut Shaker style AFAIK. And also would apply it to the kickboard and some drawers."The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0 -
It would probably be worth going back to your housebuilder and finding out who supplied your kitchen. Door heights vary from supplier to supplier so IKEA doors, for instance or those of B&Q and Wickes, are unlikely to fit your cabinets....0

Kitchen was supplied by Symphony, so would need to be from the same range. They do an American Walnut shaker one!"The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0

sounds perfect! I love the look of the walnut and white.
I dont think you will have any problems as a shaker style is pretty plain unlike some farmhouse style with scrolls and whatnots. In fact if you wanted to use plain modern doors for the accent areas I think that would work.
I would use the same style door handles throughout to ensure a 'flow' in the design. If your current doors have plain wood round knobs then maybe updating the handles to a a modern style would be a good idea.
I got all my handles from picknfix (or pickandfix cant remember exactly) kitchens on ebay and according to my fitter they were just as good quality as those bought from kitchen suppliers, but miles cheaper.0
