Cyprus holiday spending money?

Ok we got a really great deal to Limassol next week - <366pp self catering apratment in Limassol with pool - wondering if anyone's any idea of spending money.
Tripadvisor is suggesting £500 a week per person - we're a 2 adults, 2 yooths family - plan to eat out frugally when possible and do a bit of balcony eating in apartment.
Anyone any idea - off to order Euro's from post office before we go - but dunno how much to take.
Adventures etc planned are all accounted for on CC - (0%) and a few bits organised including car hire - but wondered if anyone had any clue. We're not great 'spenders' but do enjoy eating local food out as economically as we can

If you've any experience I'd love to hear
Cheers - as always - I googled this topic and good old Martin came up almost at the top!

From today's Cyprus Mail...

And from a link on the Paphos expats forum, also this morning...

Also they're another country that can't keep their finances under control, though being governed by a teflon shouldered Commie hasn't helped...

We go to Cyprus regularly and, excluding car hire, don't spend £500 in two weeks for the two of us.
BTW you don't have to take all your money with you. If you have the right plastic, getting cash as and when you need it is no problem. ATMs are widespread.0 -
Thanks chaps really helpful. I'll check we have the *right* plastic for taking money out - I'm sure I got charge in France so need check which cards work best.........
Glad to hear you don't spend £500 for two in a fortnight G-N-D - we're pretty savvy usually lived out there as a kid but not been back since.
Lovely links too - thanks for taking the time to reply P-Pete, I heard the news on the Radio yesterday about a plea for bail out - another plea - sigh.
Much appreciate the advice. Off to try adn find a guide book in the library.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

I have family in Cyprus and we fly out there almost every year. We also base ourselves in Limassol, in a self catering apartment. If you hire a car and can get around to the big Supermarkets rather than the small tourist shops, then you can cater for yourselves pretty cheaply. Euphanides supermarkets are pretty good, especially the bigger one in Limassol town, but Lidl (on Franklin Roosevelt, near the Keo brewery) is the cheapest place for groceries. Alpha Omega are the more expensive supermarket, I've found. Also, if you walk into the old town on market day, the fruit and veg are good value and delicious.
I usually take £1000 for two of us for a fortnight, but usually bring some back. Although last year it was only £50, but we did eat out EVERY night and I bought two, count 'em, TWO new handbagsYou had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
Thanks guys - Pete (EEK) thankfully we popped by Aiynapa but didn't do more than pop in for an hour.
Famagusta was where I use to live (before we were evacuated) so a trip there was a real eye opener, so strange to see it all like a ghost town - and didn't get near my old houseas it was in the 'forbidden zone'.
Lovelyjoolz - thanks we were in Limassol in a self catering hotel apartment - lovely it was too and cheap <£300 for the week - I hope that's cheap? Flights were the most expensive bit - if we go again we'll book them yonks in advance and then sort accomodation.
We found the supermarkets you mentioned thank you very much and did indeed end up around Lidl! The old town was beautiful.
We took 650E and took out a bit more (E200) when there for expensive adventure type stuff (off roading, water parks and jet ski malarkies that OH wanted to dogreat fun) and managed OK - we ate out lots though and found it quite cheap and portions huge - so managed with 2-3 mains for 4 of us. Kids are really adults now, so overall found it quite cheap when there as you'd all said.
A free watermelon from a local restaurant also helped as it meant free brekkies for some of us!
Thanks for all your help - was brilliant.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
