First time credit card holder. I have got a Halifax One Card (13 months Interest Free on Purchases) which I have had for just over a month, I have made a few purchases with the card but I have not received a bill? I can see my mini-statement online, but I wanted to pay off some of the stuff on there but I’m confused in how to do this because I haven’t received a bill asking me to pay anything.

Or will I not get one till my 13 months interest free is up?

You will receive a statement every month. Maybe the first one is a bit late as you will be fitted into a statement slot. Thereafter every statement will be issued the same time every month (moving a day or two in either direction). You can see the statements issued on-line.

There is a menu for "statements" showing the statements listed by month. You might, or might not, receive that same statement by mail. Usually with on-line statements an e-mail notification will advise you, once the statement is available on line.

The statement will show your minimum payment and the date the payment must have been received. You must pay this (or more, if you want to) on time and never go over your limit, otherwise the 0% deal might well be cancelled.

If I was you I would keep a close eye on your account and make sure your first statement doesn't go astray as if you are late paying you will lose the 0% offer.

Ideally if you haven't already, have a direct debit set up to pay the minimum payment each month.
If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me :D
  • Thanks for your advise guys, I decided to give Halifax a call and they said that my statement was being printed today and that my first payment date was the 19th July.

Even if you have asked for a Direct Debit to be set up, this might not cover the statement issued today. You must see on the statement something like: "Payment of £xxx will be deducted from your nominated account on or after date xyz."

If you don't see that sentence, DD is not in place (yet) and you will have to make a manual payment.
  • Do you use the online banking facility at all with Halifax?

I'm not sure how theirs works in comparison to NatWest but whenever I make a payment towards the card it usually comes up with three options: the full amount, an amount of my choice, or the minimum payment.

EDIT: I see you've contacted the Halifax and that they've helped you with your enquiry.
