Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong forum
unsure which forum to post it in.
My brother in law lives in Edinburgh in a multi which is getting knocked down
He's been giving a new flat in a multi and is having to move. He's been giving money for having to move out of his house he's saying this is meant to pay for moving house? It's about £2000 i think. I thought that the council would probably arrange for his moving? He is on his own and no friends or family nearby we all stay at least 100 miles away and he cant drive. He's wanting us to hire a van to move him though we think it might be cheaper to hire sombody in Edinburgh to move him but wanted to ask first if the council should move him? My friend moved out of a flat recently to get re-wired got some money to cover any upsets for moving and also got his removals done by the council. So i thought this might be the same?
Thanks Very Much

i think the 2 grand is to cover cost of removal firm..... he needs to get some quotes, moving yourself in a hired van is not fun, get someone else to do all the furniture movingmustn't grumble :cool:0

Don't know if this is relevant but a friend of mine had to move out of her council house (she was moved out because she had started to live with her partner and had left the house unoccupied for most of the week) and she could not afford a van. She got as many friends with vehicles as she could find to move her, but this resulted in some of her belongings being left behind. She then got a £70 bill from the council for removing her rubbish. So maybe it is best to pay for a removal firm if the council wont help out with this.0
