Hey all,

First of all i appoligise if this is posted n the wrong place,Was not sure where to post.

Anyone been in a similar situation with Paypal?

Basicly,I bought my computer system components from an online retailer,Paid through Paypal.

I then decided that i wanted to change my order,So i cancelled the motherboard.

Problem is,Paypal have still not refunded the money they took for the purchase of that motherboard,A good £75.

I contacted the online retailer who i bought the pc parts from and they insist that they did not take payment for the board because i cancelled it before they had chance to even get it ready.

So from what i can make out,Paypal still has my money even though its not showing back in my account as credit.

Do you have to wait so long for it to be sent back to you or something?..

did not want to contact Paypal just yet if its known to take a few days.
Cancelled the order on 23/6/12.

been using paypal for a couple of years now.

Appreciate the help.

Thanks! ;)

When did you place the order?

Paypal will not refund the money until they have received the original money, because this transaction could fail.

Do you bank with RBS/NatWest/UlsterBank? That will make things take even longer...

    Hi,

    thanks for replying. :)

I placed the order on the same day the 23/6/12,Placed the order in the morning and then cancelled it in the afternoon.

Not sure what you mean by "Paypal will not refund the money until they have received the original money, because this transaction could fail."

I thought paypal took the money to then pay the online retailer?
When i look on my paypal account,On the transaction details it says...

    • Payment Status - Cancelled
    • Description:
    • You have sent £74.98 GBP to (websites name) Plc with PayPal
    • Note- general error occurred creating the order.

So im not sure whats going on,The online retailer insist they never took the payment for the item.

    Nah i bank with Barclays.

Thanks again for your help. :)

It depends on what set-up the retailer has with PayPal. Sometimes PayPal will take an authorisation on your card which means that the money is ring-fenced for PayPal to take at a later stage when the retailer requests it. If the retailer doesn't request it that money is still held until they release the authorisation. Many small companies who use PayPal don't realise that they should release the authorisation if they don't intend to charge you. However, as it depends on the set-up the retailer may not actually have capability to release the authorisation and you may just have to wait the few days it take PayPal.

If they had actually charged your card rather than just taken an authorisation on it then with most things to do with PayPal it takes 2-3 working days for money to be transferred from them to your account (this is definitely the case when you are withdrawing money from your PayPal account, so I would imagine they would employ the same archane methods and systems when refunding you).

If you paid by instant bank transfer PayPal will wait for the transfer to complete before releasing the funds to your PayPal account

it will just be waiting for the auth to drop off
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
