worry-wart wrote: »Question about best before dates.
Years ago when I were a skint student, I worked in a local supermarket. One of my jobs was stock rotation. I was always told that if bread had a date of say ...
Best before 03 July (2)
.... this meant that the bread was best before 3rd July but should be sold 2 days before hand i.e. today, 1st July. I was in Asda earlier and they had a shelf full of 02 Jul (2) bread that a fellow shopper hadn't noticed as she picked from the back and presumed she'd gotten a good date. When I asked an SA if the bread should be on the shelf he said that Asdas policy was to reduce down the 02 July bread tomorrow and not before. Was he fobbing me off? I've had a look online and found this on the food standards agency website
You learn something new every day as I didn't know that last snippet about eggs.
Mr As is pretty much exclusively where I get my eggs now as they always seem to have some reduced when I am in (I thought it was six days rather than 7 but I knew it was pretty far in advance)
In As I've gotten loaves for 1p 2 days before the best before date, other days it is one day before and sometimes the best before date itself. It seems to be up to who is on/how busy they are, if they noticed it or not, etc....
My local express on the other hand reduces bread by 95% 2 days before the best before date without fail.Apparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -
Good luck Frequent for tomorrow, hope all will go well.
Loved the rose syrup
Not so keen on the lavendar.... reminds me of parma violets
Glad you didn't trample the flowers for that picture FK.
Locarr, thank goodness for other channels that won't be screening sports programmes... either that or a very good book (not the 50..! ) to get into
Pleased the house move has gone well for you FloFlo.

Wombled a few petrol coupons today I wont use them all there is 2 surplus .............
Shame they are one coupon per transaction. I wombled four todayI really wanted some conditional spend vouchers but the only one I found expired in April :eek:
Has anyone tried using more than one petrol voucher at a time? I read someone say that Ts staff were told to allow up to 3 last time despite what it said on the voucher because Ms were doing 12p offApparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

Been a weird day. I gave an involuntary donation to charity by losing my purse in the retail park in K%rkcaldy. £12 in cash, £4 luncheon vouchers, £8 wh smith card, £7 till spit, and couple of coupons. Bus pass student card and various plastic.
IM STUPID no sympathy requested. Must have made someones day getting that load
and two free coffee at Mcds !
Dont call yourself stupid because in doing so you are also calling me stupid!!!
Someone, somewhere found my coupon collection including about 5 of each of Huggies Little Swimmers, Huggies Wipes, Kleenex, Wench, Fajita kits bonus points, free costa coffee vouchers and a few juicy wombles
I just hope they were found by a grateful MSE type person who made use of them and that they weren't binned by anyone with more money than senseApparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

Thanks for that. I always thought it was a rule rather than a suggestion. A tad cheeky leaving so much on the shelf but thankfully found a better date.No one can make you feel inferior without your consent ~ Eleanor Roosevelt0 -

I think I had one of those behind me in Asda today (yes, I've switched allegiance since the glitches dried up and Asda had all the cheap food). I was told the other day it was one APG per transaction. Today I was told I could fill my boots ..... so I did! Been stocking up on Coco Pops which are in short supply in Sainsburys so had some hefty APGs plus lots of little wombles. Think I used 7 across 3 transactions and the girl behind me in the queue wasn't best pleased I was holding her up. I just stood there smug having only paid about £4 after APGs for £60+ of goodies :j Oh and another two 99.99% guaranteed APGs tomorrow plus 2 wombles. I've made two successful claims so have two vouchers; can I use them both in one shop?
Yes just present them to the checkout operator to be discounted from your shopping.
