I've not been able to read up on any of this thread so many apologies in advance for not contributing recently and for this completely OT post ... but I know the knowledge base and expereince of this thread is HUGE :D

To cut to the chase I could do with 'speaking' with a regular person who has experience of appying for Deputyship for someone with Dementia ... and all what it means on a day-to-day basis once it has been put in place.

I am a FT carer for mum with Alzheimers who lives with me and hasn't a penny to her name ... so I have no experience of dealing with care homes and looking after anyones financial affairs.

But my aunt (her sister) has vascular dementia and has been in a local care home since Sept last year when my cousin (her carer) became ill with cancer. He died two weeks ago and she now needs someone to act on her behalf. I know Social Services could do this but ...

Anyway, I've looked at the Office of Public Guardian and Court of Protection websites and have an idea of what's involved ... but I'd like to hear from someone who's been there, done it and got the tee shirt IYKWIM ... How much hassle does it involve? How has it affected your life? Would you do it again? What would you do differently? etc. etc.

    TIA xxx

louj - :A Your spelling's always been great, don't let it stop you from posting. What in particular did you want to know about whoopsying? The thing is, every single store is different and even varies from day to day so although it's a pain, to actually do it intentionally and successfully, the only way is to get out there and suss out your stores :) It also depends on how much choice you want to vs how much you want to spend as to what time of day will be right for you. Some stores just don't do the mega reductions others do unfortunately :(

Laura Cello - Glad you had a great day at Goodwood :D

    FK - Gorgeous lunch :T

Hope everyone else at Goodwood is having fun and hope there were some Elite meets :T:cool:

Maybe FK saw frequent walking about with his slap proof pan on and thought "do i want to be seen with him?"

Frequent meanwhile saw FK in his finest purple tights and thought "do i want to be seen with him?"

Both then turned and walked in opposite directions!!

I am so delighted this is the first time I've been on your list of thought. Thank you for your concern. You're such a caring person & love reading your comments. I have to wait till Tuesday to get a long enough appointment needed so will be a toothless for several days. Think if I try not to speak much should get away with theatre & sing along under my breath. I'm going with a very close understanding friend
I just checked my emails but no reply yet from Lutz I hope she is ok. Let's hope she's on hols or something. I do have her home address so if still concerned after few more days I could write to her. Will keep you informed.

Sorry I cant be of much help but this is what I did. My Dads solicitor allows you get half an hour free so I got all of the paperwork together and a list of questions and she then started the process off for us.
When my Dad went into the care home I got power of attorney. The solicitor came to see my Dad and assessed him and this cost £80. My Dads needs are physical not mental and he can still sign his name. So I am sorting out his legal and financil affairs.
It sounds like your situation is more complicated than ours though.
if they dont have any money at all (or at least less than £23 thousand) it make it simpler. The care home fees are paid for (by social services I assume).
Assume they dont own any property - house etc?
Do your mum and her sister have social workers assigned to them?
Are they both claiming the full attendance allowance - both the day and the night element? Do they need care at night as well as during the day?
