Worth asking for a sample. Personally I would try to convince them to go for the salmon version - afterall, what's the benefit in switching to the chicken if it contains the kind of ingredients that the dog may be allergic to? I mean, it is better than the Asda stuff but maize is the main ingredient so personally I would try to avoid it.
Bear in mind that a better quality food usually requires less to be fed of it. They may be paying £6 more for it but it may last them a week or two longer than what they normally buy. Do you know what the dog weighs, and how many tins they're feeding a day?

I have emailed them for a free sample, just waiting to hear back. Also getting some free samples from Appawls (mainly for cat).

The dog is a female labrador and weighs around 28kg. She is fed 1 tin a day which is 400g.

I also came across CSJ Champ (sure they make Autarky as well, it was on their website under products) Couldn't find much information about it. Is this any good or is it the same as the Autarky Chicken and contains Maize? It was £12 delievered you see.

    It contains wheat and maize
    Composition
Wheat, Beef & Lamb Meal, Maize, Chicken Fat, Chicken Liver, Unmolassed Beet Pulp, Alfalfa, Salmon Oil, Salt, Yucca Schidigera.

I think all of the CSJ foods do, except their No-Grainer (which isn't that cheap, £35)

Alright well I think going to try the salmon Autarky. As I said its on special offer two 15kg bags of salmon for £37 delievered. Going to try free sample first before buying though.

I was also thinking just to make the dry food stretch slightly longer to buy some meat from butchers. Like liver and rabbit and so on the cheaper meat and parts of animals still good for dogs but humans are fussy. I buy chicken for my dog and mince from supermarket but its far to expensive and they pump it with water and so on. Whats the cheapest meat but best for dogs/cats?

    Hi,

I have a Springer who has had a few ear infections & stuff from the vets never seemed to do the trick. I was reccommended to try this on a Springer forum & it really does work http://www.thornitearpowder.com/ You only need a tiny bit. I know it says for mites but it works all the time for us & many others too. Once I got her ears clear with it, I now use it once a week & touch wood we have never had anymore problems:D We also feed JWB everything free having a springer:D
Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

My pooch has ongoing ear issues - she's part basset which means she has quite floppy ears. So far she's had Surolan cream and now Canaural plus steroids. She's fed on Wainwrights Salmon and potato kibble mixed with Nature Diet Fish & Vegetable wet food. She's back at the vets for a check up on Tuesday but at the moment her ears seem much improved.

I second the Thornit powder. My Bichon pup came with the most gunky smelly ears which Surolan didn't clear up. I was recommended Thornit, one dose cleared it up, a second dose a week later just to be sure and she's been gunk free ever since and she's now 2.

So been like a month since purchasing the Salmon Autarky and the ear infection seems to have gone completely. Dog has more energy and coat feels soft, shiny and smooth. She also doesn't need anywhere near the amount of food she use to. She loves the food but will leave some because she is full (Never did this with ASDA wet food).

Great news. Out of interest, has it worked out much more expensive than the Hero to feed now the quantity she's eating has decreased?
