Tax Certificate for Halifax/BOS Reward accounts

Halifax/BOS used to automatically send out tax certificates for all accounts, although oddly my BOS current account always had to be requested.

This year no such certificates arrived so I phoned up to request them and what a palaver that was when I asked for certificates for my 2 Reward accounts.

Conversation goes like this;

Halifax : We don't supply Tax Certificates for Reward accounts as no interest is paid.
Me : It counts as interest as far as my tax return is concerned so i'd like a tax certificate please.
Halifax : It's a net payment of £5 and gross is £6.25.
Me : I know the figures but I still need a tax certificate for my tax return. Can you please send one.
Halifax : Ok I'll organise it for you.

4 weeks later I have the tax certificates for all my Halifax/Bos accounts but not the Halifax Reward account. Strangely enough I end up with 2 certificates for my BOS Reward Account.

So yesterday I phoned Halifax again to go through the same ridiculous conversation. Hopefully I'll get my tax certificate this time.

What on earth are they playing at? Surely they must supply one if requested?

BOS Reward account arrived automatically (only recently though) although that's the one I usually have to request.

Had mine for three of my four accounts.

I'm also getting them through as we speak for my numerous savings accounts.

Oh for the halcyon days of their consolidated tax statement covering all accounts.

So did I, not that I need it.

However if you received the £5 reward each month and the gross amount is £6.25 it does not take a lot of grey matter to work it out......

Presumably it's to claim it back, or they have some other reason why they need to declare it to HMRC (who aren't in the habit of accepting mental addition as proof of tax!).......

I don't have a problem working it out. However I need the Tax Certificates should HMRC ever see the need to question my Self Assessment returns.

Exactly. I need to complete a tax return each year and I have no intention of not having the appropriate proof.

    Yes wouldn't it be nice.

I also remember those grand old days when the Tax Certificates arrived by the end of April never mind the end of June and still waiting.
