Cheque - Really Worried

Hi Everyone
I am really worried at the minute. My dad has very kindly given me and my family 5000pounds to help us get new furniture and some other things for our new house. He wrote me a cheque that I banked to today at my bank, the Co Operative Bank.
He banks with Lloyds TSB and my problem is this...
Around six years ago I lost a job due to been made redundant and I fell into arrears with a loan and my credit card. I now pay towards the amounts owing though a debt collection agency.
My question is, With my dad banking with Lloyds and the cheque going to my Co Op account, is their any way Lloyds can take the money I still owe when the funds clear?
Thank you ever so much for any help

You have nothing to worry about. The cheque will clear. Clearing is highly automated so it's highly unlikely Lloyds will even know the payee of the cheque (you) also owe them money. Even if they do make the connection (which as I say is about as likely as my Natwest account showing the correct balance by the time I go to bed
), they have no right to simply take money. 0 -
Thank you very much for that. I don't know if the CO OP and Lloyds and now linked in anyway? I know the co op wanted to buy some Lloyds branches but I dont know if this happened?
All the best trying to get sorted out with Natwest0 -
The Co-op are trying to buy some Lloyds branches but it's a very long way from being a done deal. At the moment they're not linked.
Hope this helps

Excellent. I thought they may be linked hence our money may be at risk. But if they are not linked that is fine. Thank you very much for your help0

Definitely not linked. Even the FSA says the co-operative is only financially linked to Britannia and Smile.
No need to worry.0 -
Nope there not linked so your safe.0
