Facts of life....well sex talk!

Well, I came home today for my OH to tell me that my 12 year old daughter said to him that a boy from school found her G-Spot today!
Of course, what she meant was that he had found her "goo goo" spot ie he poked her in the ribs and she went all giggly and squirmy lol
He had a bit of a chat with her and basically explained what the G-spot is (as she asked).
This is just the latest in a series of discussions that we have had with her about sex (following the discovery that she had watched sexcetera while on a sleepover ha ha
So, whilst this may not be everyone's way of doing things, we are being open and honest (well as much as we can be without scaring her for life lol) and I am just glad that she can talk to us about it all and find out things properly and not half truths from the playground.
I know that they get the basics at school and it's done in a clinical way, but what would you say to your kids if they ask??

I hide my head in the sand. My son asked a friend today (they are 7) if he was a version (meant virgin). The older kids are watching "the" dvd and big brothers talking to little brothers in his class.“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0

The honest truth and answer any questions they ask. No point being coy - they will learnt it all eventually and I'd rather be the one doing the teaching.
I had a similar experience to this actually, was about 8 (had no idea what sex was really) got fake married in the playground and truly believed sex was sitting in someone's lap. Anyway was chasing around this boy when the dinner lady stopped me and somehow the conversation ended up with me saying me and the boy had been having sex. So me and the lad were marched up to the heads office, parents called, I had to tell my dad that me and the boy had been doing it. I think it took about an hour before the head realized that neither of us had any clue what sex actually was and it was all completely innocent.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
Well done OP. Parents owe their children the truth when they ask questions. The topic of sex shouldn't change that - but if it did, it should be more important. Sex will be a part of their lives and knowledge is power - if you want your children to have healthy, adult relationships then they need to know the facts so they can protect themselves.0

Arghhh my boys are 15 & 16 years old....seriously hate the thought that they could be at that age of doing it! Have been completely open and honest about sex with them for a few years now!
My oh has regular chats and has done since they were about 13/14 years old!
It scary how quick they grow up!

Yeh - she asked the other night if we were going to have sex that night as we had been waking her up and was it normal to make noise (she was exaggerating (sp) a tiny bit though
My OH said why is it me that always gets these conversations.....I replied but I get the gooey period type ones so it's only fair ha ha0 -
We've always been very open with our children about sex.
Primary school sent out a letter saying "we will be showing this dvd in class, any objection or if you wish to see it first let us know"
Me and my then-OH were the only parents who asked to see it - and a few simply refused to let their children watch it  and it was helpful to know why certain questions came up.
We always answer any questions they have (my children, not other parents!) and believe me, the questions have been posed in the queue in Sainsbury's (everyone else queueing goes silent and waits for the answer) and while out for a meal... waitress looked most astonished!
I would much rather total honesty and being able to talk and approach us - we do have some hair-raising conversations over dinner! and I can tell from the way the subjects are discussed that both children are happy and not embarrassed about what is a natural bodily function.
Not only sex chats, we also talk about alcohol, drugs, relationships, politics, religion - you name it, we talk it. Dinner can last 4 hours in our house as we will sit round and chat things out. This also happens when we have the children's friends around - a few of my daughter's friends will rather ask me things than their own mum, which I find sad but understandable and puts me in a difficult situation!0 -
Lol!
Hmmm yes I got off that one as I have boys, although still had to explain that to them!

I try to answer as well as I can but always wonder if Im saying too much, or not enough [for my DDs age] since theres no 'rules' to follow; I just answer with whatever seems right, often including my opinion!! I do hear all sorts of preposterous 'facts' that theyve got from the playground though and I try to set them straight, too. My dd and I are definately a lot more open about this stuff than I was with my mum, even though my mum was pretty open, too.
They have been watching the sex education dvd at school and I did a bit of research into it and discovered that although boys masturbating is mentioned, girls masturbating isnt, which I found rather annoying, if predictable. At some point I feel I should therefore tell my DD's about all that or at least get across that its normal, but how Im not really sure..''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
I try to be as open as I can and answer questions as they come up - but frankly there is a time and place for it, and the supermarket queue isn't it. (I told him to ask his dad)0

Wait until your 16yo daughter texts and says "is Fifty Shades Freed the next in the series" I had to have a quiet sit down with a cuppa before replying! :rotfl: I can't see that she is reading those books though. No Zombies or Ninjas.
So I've been told.
