...before I call and potentially make a tit of myself!
So we have had our renewal through and have a rather large overpayment. This has come a shock to me as nothing has changed with my claim.
Its a joint claim, I work 24 hrs a wk, my partner 40.
Combined salary for 11/12 - £34,969.
Childcare costs (OFSTED registered Childminder) - £95pw
10/11 salary was higher as I'd worked full time for 6 months. I rang them at the time this changed to P/T with lower salary amount in Sep 10. All was correct for the 10/11 with this in mond and I received my reward notice and got payments throughout the year as awarded.
WTC total was £4668.35
Reduction due to income £4668.35
Childcare Element was £3458
Reduction due to income £3458
CTC Element was £3237.55
Reduction due to income £3237.55
So I owe £1626.96 of which £369.57 is made up of what I've got since April. They are saying that they will take this additional part from future award payments but I have none!
What's confusing to me is the payments I received matched their online calculator and their confimed amounts. Also, am I due some this year as I have childcare costs despite the income higher than the £24k threshold .
If I have been overpaid can they accept a payment plan. We dont have this money to hand, Rent/Childcare/Petrol & other car cost/bills and debt repayments are leaving us with next to no money at the end of the month. I even gave up my car to get by.
Perhaps I am confusing myself so if someone can help that would be great!
TIA x

Hi
we too dont understand our overpayments, CTC are asking us to repay £2000 which was overpaid in 2005/2006 although every ctc reward we have had since then is £0.00 (zero) as they have been recouping the repayments, so we are now bewildred to why we owe them £2000, they have also added approx £500 that they say they have awarded to us in this last year, but why should we be repaying this money if we have never actually received it?? when speaking to CTC the guy on the other end of the phone is just reading from a computer screen and doesnt have the answers we need. Before we repay any money we just need to know where the figureshave come from, but I really dont understand having to pay back money awarded in this last year which we havnt received????? very confused!0 -

Perhaps it's something like this.
They decide there's been an overpayment. They recover it by taking it back from the latest award, making it zero.
Let's say that award was £50 a month and for ten months they don't pay it, so they've recovered 10 x £50 = £500.
But then - as before - something causes an overpayment and that "award" of £50 should actually have been nil.
Although you haven't been paid the money, that's because it was reducing the earlier overpayment.
If it wasn't actually due, then it couldn't have reduced the overpayment, so you owe £500 more than expected.
It could be more complicated but that's just a possibility.0 -
If you have been getting money since april and they have since determined that you aren't entitled to any, it will be this that you owe back. Can you work out what you have had since april to see if it tallys up?
I too have an overpayment of £700 but it is due to work bonuses. Bonuses are a pain to people on tax credits.0 -
Whats a 'work bonus'? :rotfl:0

How many children have you got? Do they have any disabilities?
When was your youngest child born?

The reason they say they will collect money back from future awards is because basically what you have been paid from this April till now won't have to be paid back until next renewal time. I have the same x0
