I rent a council house. Change in income, wonder how it will effect it.

I share the house with my father, (it should be in his name, if that changes anything.)

We were both unemployed and bring no money in besides the job seekers and some disability allowance for him, so i believe we don't pay for the rent but only the waterboard (Which is ~£8 with rent being ~£64), i was recently hired for a £16000/annum pre-tax job and was wondering how this would change the rent. (And anything else to do with additional payments you're aware of, would be very useful to know)

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, I'm new and didn't know the best place to look, google has failed me in terms of finding income thresholds which i figured would be pretty easy to find.

You'd be better on the benefits board here:-

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139

    but...

there's a few thinsg that could affect it:-

    1. Whose name is the tenancy actually in?
    2. Exactly what sort of "disability allowance" does your dad get? Care/Mobility ; High/Middle/Low?

Without these answers, it's all just guesswork.

It is in my fathers name.

He gets ESA and DLA, i assume low where applicable, he certainly doesn't get anything extra such as a car. I can ask for more details from him if it's significant.

Thanks for the help, though, i will copy and paste the thread onto the appropriate section.

If the rent is paid for you it will probably be Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit, which is administered by the local council.

Income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment Support Allowance, and any other income-based benefits may be altered to take into account the household income and you / your father have to notify them.

Disability Living Allowance is not income-related and will not change.
