I'm with MMS and they need notification of the event - but I said as they will be paying PILON - I wouldn't claim for those weeks and they said it was fine.

    Give them a ring

That sounds promising. Thanks. I am back off to head office tomorrow to see what the terms are going to be - still don't know what I am being offered in terms of notice or PILON.

After that I think the insurance will have to get a call.

Can I ask, did you speak to the 'office' or the claims dept? Every time I have phoned the 'office' (as a prospective new client asking details of the policy) I have spoken to the same girl who just seems to quote the T&C's back to me without explaining them fully

So, hence I feel really sick. The holiday is very expensive and paid for by my credit card which is not paid off.

If I take the holiday I am presuming I will loose my insurance money, which in itself is for quite a considerable amount per month.

Has anyone else been in this situation and can offer advice.

    Yes.

Look for work whilst you are there on your holiday.

It is perfectly legitimate and permitted to look for work overseas whilst on JSA, although I am not sure if that only applies to EU member states or not.

I'd feel perfectly comfortable looking at a local newspaper for work whilst I was there.

There will likely be no jobs there that you are qualified to do (at least on the grounds of language anyway), but you will be acting within the letter of the law.

Who knows - maybe you will even see a job you like there!
  • Unfortunately USA is not classed as one of the places you are entitle to visit to 'look for work' - I've already checked. It has to be an EEA country or Switzerland.
