Ebay for everything?

1) I needed a new router.... cheapest place for it was ebay.
2) I wanted a particular xbox 360 game... got it "mint" for a third of the retail.
3) Needed new shoes for work... Got em off shuhonlines ebay account at half price.
4) Picked up sum jiffy bags in bulk on ebay too, cheaper than stationary box.
5) Bought a couple of pairs of shorts for the summer too.

THIS IS ALL TODAY!!! Spent around £70 on this stuff, bits n pieces ive needed for a while, but the router and shoes alone would have cost over £100 in the shops!! Pretty much save 65% by getting it all on ebay.

My point is has anyone else found themselves buying EVERYTHING from ebay!!! :p

Whenever someone says to me 'Oh I want to buy so and so' 'I'll say have a look on eBay'

I buy most things off ebay particularly clothes and household items just because it's so SO much cheaper. I've had a couple of duds but overall it's been brilliant. I wouldn't buy anything expensive off there though, just wouldn't want to take the risk.

I sell much more than I buy from ebay, unless its something unusual you can find it cheaper by shopping around, my opinion anyway.

Me too - although most people I suggest it to don't bother. Like you say you can save loads. Only last week I got a kettle (which was virtually impossible to find on the high street in the colour I wanted) for 25% less than high street price, and recently an expensive electric blanket for nearly half price. Hooray!
  • I work in a shop in a small town and whenever customers ask for anything that we don't supply I suggest ebay - most of them say "Oh I never thought of that", and I often think they don't bother either. They should!!
For me ebay has definately been the place to get 99% of whatever I'm looking for that I can't get here, was brilliant for a family member's wedding stuff last yr and also for Christmas.
  • Ebay's good for buyers (good prices) but bad for sellers (fees), imho.

I agree SC, but where else can people advertise their goods and reach such a wide audience?

eBay are a monopoly and they know that even with fee increases sellers will still list there. There are other auction sites that sellers can list their items on but the problem is they don't receive anywhere near the level of traffic that eBay receive. Therefore, sellers come back to eBay.

At the end of the day it's your own choice to list on eBay.

The illusion of choice. Welcome to capitalism.

i buy video games, dvds, books, clothes, bags, adapters, ink cartridges...

i will no longer purchase expensive items, particularly electrical items from sellers on ebay though as i am concerned about items not being as described and warranty issues.

i purchased an expensive mobile phone in the past from what i thought was an excellent seller which was meant to be new and clearly wasn't, i had to start a paypal dispute and return it, seller refused to collect from his local sorting office as he did not want to refund but after speaking to paypal they refunded anyway as i had returned it and the seller was aware of where it was and was able to collect it. i just don't want the hassle and worry of having to do that again with expensive items and also lose the cost of return postage.

it is far less hassle and less risk to purchase expensive electrical items from the cheapest high street or reputable online retailer.
