How long should tyres last??

I hope you guys are not serious.
You don't change tyres according to car odometer, you change them according to tyre wear marks.
There are small rubber extensions that go across the gap in between sections of tread. If they are getting close to level with the rest of the tread, it’s new tyre time.
If you have any understanding of a tyre tread purpose you don't run them down to 2mm.
Car tyres are supplied with about 8mm -10mm tread. If they are measured to have 4mm tread left, then they might be about half worn. They may even be measured from the tread depth gauges, because I know some garages do this to make the readings look worse.
Shock, horror, a garage wants to sell £300 worth of tyres which will take 20 minutes to fit and net them a tidy profit.
I was suggesting that the OP goes and checks their own tyres and makes the assessment as to whether they need replacing right away rather than get a vastly differnt set of opinions on how long a random set of tyres last on a wide variety of cars.
I know exactly how tead works, I know exactly why there is a 1.6mm legal limit for it, I know what wear indicators are and I know why replacing tyres with 4mm of tread left is wasting money potentially 5-10 thousand miles too early.
Ta.

i agree witha couple of early posters about getting plenty of miles from there car tyres. i have a set of super cheap tyres on front of my deisel scenic ( were on car when i got it ) i have done about 16k and i would say they are about half worn down to around 4-5mm.
if my tyres dont last 40k that i need to drive better0 -
If your cars a diesel they tend to chew through front tyres quickly. I used to get 12k out of Sport Contact 3's on my Bravo Sport driving carefully and changed at the start of the year to Kleber Quadraxer all season, they have done 12k and still have loads of tread left on them, hopefully I make it to 20k!
All tyres are different, I only had 2 sets of Michelin MXT's on my old Panda and it did 130k miles!0 -
Need some new front tyres, Pirelli P Zero Rosso on at moment and done 13.5k, rear still 5mm left.
Those Michelin Pilots were labelled Primacy as standard fit to certain Vauxhalls, best on rear 19k, front 6k. Goodyear F1 on rear 6k FWD.
Biggest improvement to get more mileage from tyres is to change the bushes and a 4 wheel track and camber set. Went from 4 to 6k to in excess of 12 to 13k on same motor.0 -

I was also serious and then along comes another scaremongerer
PS I drive over 30000 miles a year and have done for years, and always change my tyres before they get down to the legal limit0
