PPI - MBNA passed 8 week

Options
hi all,

i am after a bit of advice from anyone. i have sent off a claim regarding mis-sold ppi on my mbna (virgin) credit card. the 8 week deadline was the 19/06 and they 'do not have a decision or update' and i shuld keep calling every couple of days.

however - i see on the forums that people have had their claims with mbna settled within the time that i have had my complaint with them.

the call centre staff at MBNA are not very helpful, everytime i call i just get the 'no update yet please call back'. they will not give me a deadline date.

what should i do now? seems a little odd that claims or not being dealt in a 'first come first served' basis.

thanks

They (all the banks) are simply inundated with PPI complaints. You can go to the Ombudsman, but that can take over a year!
Give it some more time and do as they suggest by calling regularly (not every day!) for updates.

My MBNA letter came this morning and the info says they will respond within 28 days ( not 8 weeks !! )......dont know if that is a good sign or not ? either way i will know sooner rather than later .....someone i know said they got one the same and it ended up being rejected though so the pessimist in me says that i will end up being disappointed !

i initially had that letter, then 2 weeks after it came another letter saying it will take a bit longer. the weird bit is that people have submitted claims after i sent mine in to them, and they have been settled

It can't possibly always be first come, first served because each complaint is considered on it's own merits. Some complaints will be clearly mis-sold without further investigation being required, others will need to be looked at more carefully.
So patience, it's not even guaranteed that your complaint will be upheld...

so do these banks just assign a pile of letters to each individual working there and say "work your way through them" ?

My CC claim with MBNA was fairly quick, but I'm claiming on 2 loans with them that reached 28 days but I have had the second letter promising a full and final decision within 8 weeks of the original claim.

I doubt it's as random as that!

I expect more than one person will assess the validity of the complaints, though some will be more apparent than others.

Some of the other posters here have worked in PPI departments of lenders and so are more qualified to comment than I.

Pehaps it may be a good idea for MSE forum to ask one of those individuals to put up a sticky where they can put the process up ( from their experience ) as to exactly how these departments work and what procedure is followed. It may help posters tounderstand exactly what is happening to their reclaim application at any given stage.

    Regards
