Does that price include Windows? Ebuyer are selling a very similar system for over £100 less.

Why bother? If you can't or won't pay the license fee you might as well install Ubuntu and be done with it.

    Synthetic benchmarks :/....

A computer is a total sum of the parts, every piece has a part to play right down to the case.

True, but the cpu/motherboard are the heart of any system, the better they are the more future proof you may have. The i3 2130 knocks the spots of the AMD 4100 processor

    Hows this for £232?

This bundle includes the ME-205B Micro-ATX Case with 500W PSU, the ASUS P8H61-MX SKT 1155 Motherboard with INTEL H61 Chipset, Intel HD Graphics, HD Audio, LAN.

    Supports 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7 / i5 / i3 in LGA1155 Package
    Memory: 2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 1066/1333 Non-ECC, Un-Buffered Memory Dual Channel Memory Architecture
    1 x PCIe 2.0 x16
    3 x PCIe 2.0 x1
    Storage Controller(s):4 x S-ATA/300
    On-Board LAN:Realtek 8111E PCIe Gigabit LAN controller
    On-Board Audio:Realtek® ALC 887 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
On-Board Video:Intel processor with integrated graphics is required
    10 x USB 2.0 port(s) (4 at back panel, black, 6 at mid-board)
    REAR I/O
    1 x PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse combo port
    1 x DVI-D
    1 x VGA
    1 x LAN
    6 x USB 2.0
    3 x Audio

    BUNDLE ALSO INCLUDES:

The Intel Core i3 2130 3.4GHz (Sandybridge) Processor 3Mb Cache Including Heatsink & Fan Fitted to the Motherboard

    PLUS!
    8Gb (2 X 4Gb Module) DDR3 1333MHz Memory
I'd upgrade the PSU for the corsair as suggested (+£45), and add win 7/64 (+£80).......and still have change from your £400 budget
See here and scroll down for the i2 2130....

Because what you're suggesting is probably illegal.

Thats ok, although i definitely would take the 8GB from that supplier because only then do you get to pick your RAM from a very small list ( Mushkin Silverline is pretty decent)
And replace the PSU it will be a cheap value brand junk that will prob catch fire at some stage.

The only downside, is socket 1155 is nearing replacement and while upgrades would be possible in later life the AM3+ platform at least has "Piledriver" to look forward too (here's hoping its significantly better than Bulldozer)

It comes with Win 7 Home OEM - plus the upgrade to Win 8 when it arrives I think.

I appreciate what you say about the ebuyer machine - problem is I've had problems with them in the past with build quality/reliability. I think the extra few ££ are worth it for a decent build.

You can't "licence" an operating system if you don't have a licence! :p
