Just reading on here about faulty electrical goods and the rights of the consumer has made me start this thread. Have any of you had sterling service from any appliances you have bought?

My Comet Proline cheapy freezer is still going strong after 17 years of sterling service. It's never broken down, never had a service, it's looking a bit tatty now but I am loath to get rid of it. Anyone else still using old stuff?

I was using my old Creda Washer, bought for me by my late Dad 16 years ago up until it died last year.

I'd secretly been praying for its demise for some time, it was uneconomical not in the least because it had no 30 degree wash option and I had to have the water on to use it. I did try and look very upset when OH said there was no other option but to buy a new one but inside I was dancing :D
  • 16 years for a washing machine is pretty good, but I can understand your joy at getting a new one. I forgot to mention my old Hotpoint dishwasher that was in our house when we moved in. The vendor told us it was five years old when be bought the house and it stayed in situ for another seven years before we replaced the whole kitchen. It was still working right up to the moment the builder took it out.

I've got a Philips transistor radio that I bought when I went to university. In 1980. Still works, although given that it doesn't even have FM it's usefulness is somewhat limited these days!

Not a kitchen appliance, but my trusty Stanley Bridges electric drill is still going strong after 43 years of use. Two-speed drill with a gearbox to change speed!

Indesit washing machine - over 17 years without a glitch - I have been given a new (3 year old) one so will reluctantly replace it, but fully expect some lucky freecycler to enjoy many more years with it.
My parents' one before this was the same

Oh, and I have a broom that has only had 2 new heads and 3 new sticks!

Not an appliance, but I still have a primark vest top that I bought 6 years ago.. Worn about 3 times a week for 6 years.

    Not bad for £1!

A Creda cooker which has lasted for over 27 years.
An unknown-branded (the sticker came off years ago) microwave which has lasted for 15 years (although sadly now on it's last legs)

They don't make things like they used to (nor charge for as much as they used to)
