£75 fee for going over limit

I went over my overdraft limit in May for a period of 2 weeks by £500, and have subsequently been charged £75 for doing so.
However the reason for this is because I ordered £500 of foreign currency prior to going on holiday. I was informed by the clerk that this would need to be ordered in, so I arranged a date to collect the currency. The clerk told me that no money would be taken out of my account until I picked up the currency.
However, upon checking my balance a couple of days before I picked up the currency, I noticed that I had been charged for this currency. As a result I transfered the £500 from our joint account (which we were using to save for holiday) to cover this charge thus putting my account back within the limit.
Do I have a case for refunding this £75 charge on the grounds that I only exceeded my overdraft limit due to (a) what the clerk said about when I would be charged for the currency, and (b) that I had the money in our joint account so could demonstrate that I could cover the cost of the currency?
Will they say that I should have checked my statement sooner?

Do I have a case for refunding this £75 charge on the grounds ..
No. However, you do have grounds for complaint that you incurred a charge based on misinformation. They will investigate this and if they agree with you they will refund it. If they dont then they will not. (slightly different to what you were asking as your right is to complain which could lead to a refund. Not a right to get a refund).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
