Nursery costs - how much do you pay?

I'm hopefully going to quit my job soon and go back to uni to do a PGCE, but am struggling to find decent childcare.

My current nursery works out at £51.50 a day (from 7.45am until 5.30pm), which is quite pricey (or so I thought!!), and they also can't take DS full time, so I need to find him another nursery, preferably cheaper.

Went to look at one today, which is £45 a day and really nice, but then that's only from 8am. It's an extra £5 for early drop off, then £0.60p for breakfast, and you have to supply your own nappies, so that would be about £0.80 a day, which puts it up to £51.40 a day, and it's not as good as DS's current nursery, which has a great big field to play in!

What do other people pay (per day) for nursery, and which area are you in roughly?

There's 1 other nursery that I've found that is cheaper, but their ofsted is awful, and after promising to phone me back, they haven't, nor did they reply to my email last time I tried to contact them, which just rings alarm bells.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I'm involved with a community nursery in the North West. Hours are 9.15-4pm and it costs £20 a day. Parents supply nappies and lunch. We also offer sessional care within the same hours.

We pay £38.50 per day in South Yorkshire. Opening hours are 7.30am-6pm. You can pay extra for dropping off at 7am, but I'm not sure how much that is. All food and drinks are included. We just have to provide nappies, wipes, spare change of clothes and any medicines (Calpol etc).

    Hope that helps xx
  • Hi...

I'm based in Bedfordshire and my lo is a nursery which is a national chain (if that makes sense). Tiems are 8am-6pm and everything supplied...nappies, food meds etc... and as my lo is not 3years yet its around £31per day.

Have you thought of a childminder as they are usually cheaoer and can be flexiable? I have one who worked 8am-6pm and charge £4 per hour and she supplied food but you did need to supply nappies, wipes etc.

:eek:OMG - I'm shocked how cheap nursery care is in some parts of the country, I pay £72 per day in London (and that's one of the cheaper ones round here). It's open 8am-6pm and includes all meals but I supply nappies, wipes etc.
