Hi All
Had a prob on saturday - driving my car away form a gig and in the packed/rainy car jam i couldnt see the curb that had appeared as i drove over the grass - unfortunately it was really high and as i came down it hit the underside of the wheelarch - had a quote for repair and replacement of the wheel arch panel; (VW main dealership as its a beetle less than 3 yrs old) and they are quoting £1290...obv an insurance job but will it make my premium go up? I have full, protected no claims and i'm fully comp...Any thoughts? How much do you think my premiums will increase by? (currently £400ish)
Thansk

My Husband had an accident last June (his fault) which cost the insurer a substantial amount of money - the other party was awarded £4000 personal injury , Hubby was paid out £1800 as his car was written off and then £3000 was paid out to repair the third parties car. The third party also used a Solicitor for the claim - which our insurer obviously had to fund so the total claim was around £12000.
On renewing his insurance this year his premium rose by only £100 (yes , one hundred).
He too had fully comp and full protected NCB.
It may not be as bad as you think. The loopy one has gone :j0 -

TBH OP, I can't see your extra premium + excess over a 5 year period being more than the amount you've been quoted for the repair. Run some quotes through to find out.0 -
I made a claim in 2009, renewed in 2010 and it had gone down by £55. All depends on personal circumstances.
Few things to consider...
- How many VW dealers have you called? Call several and play them off against each other. "I have a quote for {whatever work the vw quote says needs doing) and they say it;s going to be £988. Can you match/beat that?"
- Call CAB, I'm sure there's something about getting a car repaired in warranty that means you don't have to take it to the manufacturer workshop & still keep the warranty.LBM - 11/08
DMP - 12/08 - £37,255
DFD - [STRIKE]03[/STRIKE] 02/13 - [STRIKE]£6,454[/STRIKE] £3916 to go! (Unless my PPI & FOS claims are upheld, then it'll be earlier!)0 -
OP, dont forget to factor in your excess when doing your calculations.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

My renewal was £10 dearer this year after an at fault claim, total around £6K, and last year's premium had a new customer discount.0

I have had 2 claims, the first was with a hit and run, that was never tracked down- approx £1500 worth of damage and the second an electrical fault which burnt out the car and wrote off it off and caused damage to my neighbours property (My drive front, drive, windows and door covered by home insurence)
Total payout approx £5k on the second claim.
After the first Sheilas wheels quadrupled my premium, and after my 9 years protected ncd was taken into account, it was £2200! I went elsewhere and it only went up £120.
This year following the fire, I was preparing to do battle, when the premium stayed the same! Still checked online and they were the best still. Well done RAC!
I felt good claiming all the fire damage to the property back...I hadn't got around to switching my home insurence from Sheilas Wheels, so the £5k cheque was particularly sweet after they way they made it clear I wasn't wanted as a customer anymore!Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0
