Can anyone help me with a blockage?

I seem to have developed a problem with my washing machine/sink. When the washing machine (which is adjacent to the sink) drains prior to spinning, the clothes washing water surges up through the sink plughole before draining away. Where would the problem be? How do I unblock it please?

Try putting washing machine on hottest wash and washing machine cleaner home bargains sells it. Also get drain cleaners that can unblock drains/sinks. Try using some soda crystals HB sell them too flush with very hot water

Start with the over-the-counter drain unblockers such as you'll get from your local supermarket.

Your description of the problem suggests something below the point where the washing machine feeds into the plumbing, possibly in the trap, where muck tends to accumulate.

Armed with a pair of marigolds, you could remove the trap, having placed an old bucket or basin below it, and see if there's anything to be cleared out.

Its all depenent on how the machine is plumbed in, if it a propietary combination sink waste, it may just be the trap needs cleaning, but these are prone to discharge water into the sink and I would avoid and have it plumbed seperately!

Be very careful with drain cleaners, some are very caustic and will harm you and do damage to anything that not ceramic, take colour from plastics and anything coloured, and could cause serious burns!
